Hi,

I have recently bought a 5 weeks old sow to accompany my 4 yrs old sow.. I introduced them on the floor with me around.. Things were ok.. The older one started smelling the younger one.. However when I put them in the cage, the older one would chase and nip on the younger old.. They are in the cage together for a day now.. Sometimes the older one will nip the younger one suddenly.. My older sow have socialize with other guinea pigs and she doesn't show any dominance to other pigs at all..

Sows are usually pretty good at socialising. Once they sort out who is in charge they should be fine. You could put in a box with a small hole for the younger piggy that the older one can't get in to so she has a retreat. Also putting an extra food bowl in temporarily so they don't have to share may help. X

It is dominance behaviour, which you will get.

Have you thoroughly cleaned and washed out your cage/hutch prior to putting both piggies in and if possible rearranged thelayout in order to make it as new and neutral for both piggies? How big is your cage/hutch? Have both piggies hideys and bowls apart from each other?

I have 2 houses in the cage.. And I bring the younger one out for feeding.. Putting her into a carrier with a food bowl of food.. The reason is that the young one is eating pellets for young piggies and ny older one would also eat the pellets.. One thing I realize is that when they are resting, the younger one is in one of the house and the older one would lay right outside the house by the entrance.. My only concern is that it may turn out to by a bullying case..

i wonder if it was because it was the older ones home? i know when i do new intrductions, everything is thoroughly scrubbed, and clead bedding etc put in, sio that may be why if that was nt done? :)

I wanted to clean up the cage before putting them in.. However the delivery of the bedding has not arrive and is late.. I noticed also even during floor time, same thing happen.. The older one would just nip the younger one if the younger one happen to run pass her.. I am worried..

can you put them out on the grass in a run? this should take their minds off of each other as they love to eat grass

I can't as I'm staying in an apartment.. And I'm not sure the grass field near my house is safe enough for them to run around..
