I have leftover grids and coroplast, so I was think, why not expand? But I don't have room to expand outwards. If I wen upwards, would it be ok just resting on top of the original cage top? Also, how slanted should the ramp be and how do I make a ramp? I have this toy box thing beside the cage, could I expand onto that? I need the cage to be entirely covered cause I have cats..
also is wood an okay bottom if I don't have coroplast? Thanks

It would really help if we could see a photo of the cage and the area you want to expand on to.

We have a second level and my 4 love it, but not all guinea pigs will climb a ramp.
The less steep the ramp is the better, and you need to make sure it has sides and a grippy base.

I personally wouldn't use a wood bottom on a cage because if it get pee on (and it will) it could be difficult to clean.
But you could always get a piece of lino from a diy store to cover the wood.

I don't know the answer to most of your questions, but regarding wood as a bottom - it would only be ok if you add a waterproof layer on top like a vinyl sheet of some sort. Otherwise urine could potentially soak into the wood and it would be impossible to get out and would stink.

Mine love having a second level, but you definitely need to think of safety when looking at putting in stairs.
This is a photo of mine (taken when I only had my precious Amber). As you can see, i put a banister on the side of the staircase and also a box surround at the top of the staircase so the piggies can't fall.
I also had a plank fitted in at the top so that I can remove the box surround, pop the plank in and seperate it into 2 cages. The stairs at the bottom can also be unlatched and slid out.
Makes it easier to clean out this way, but also handy if i ever need to seperate my piggies for any reason.
I also have a cat, but this wire mesh is very strong and has small squares so she would have no luck getting in even if she wanted to (which she doesn't try to do, my cat is excellent around my guinea pigs). I think this is a similar mesh used for outdoor bird avaries, though my piggies live in my front room, you just never know with cat instincts so i don't take chances even though my cat Riley is very good with them.
My OH built this for me by hand, and it also has storage cupboards underneath it. It was all vanished as well (with pet-safe waterproof varnish).2016-11-15 14.36.45.webp 2016-11-15 14.38.08.webp

Be careful - they could use that ornament as a dummy to cover for any mischievous antics... :))

Ok, here is a picture. I want to expand onto the box with a bag on it. I could also use that plank there as a ramp, right?
