I've been thinking of taking my girls to the vets to be checked over. They're getting older now and i'm paranoid that somethings going to go wrong.
Theres a vets down the road, i havent rung them yet but I'm not sure if they have an exotics/guinea pig specialist vet. Do you think the vet will be good even if they arent one of these types of vet?

To be perfectly honest with you, I wouldnt worry yourself, if they eating, running around and bright and perky and you cant feel any lumps and bumps they seem fine. I spoke to Jacky and she was saying sometimes you can OVER - protect them and almost make symptoms because your exagerrating their normal behaviour.

I mean if your really worried then do it, but I wouldnt worry yourself, just like you do anyway, monitor their behaviour and feel for any lumps and bumps.

I would maybe take your piggys for a check of their teeth, especially their back ones.

The back teeth can overgrow and need to be filed down. I had a GP when i was young and a bit inexperienced which became ill because of this, had them done but was too weak and unfortunately died.

From this I have learnt to take them regularly for a check up on this because you cant see those teeth and only a vet can.

Why don't you call them and find out if they do look after piggies?
That way if you know which vet does look after them you'll be prepared if you ever need one !

My vets advise doing a fecal test yearly (poops test) just to make sure all is right......
When you find out who your nearest vet is and they do look after piggies ask what they recommend :)

It's lovely to know somebody cares enough for the furbabies to be concerned like this, good on you x>>

Your right really. They're completely fine, i just get really worried that I'm not being a good owner. I love these little girlies so much, i'd be devastated if one died. I think i watch them and anything that bothers me i start to worry about it thinking ones ill, pick them up, check them over and their fine! Their eating well, drinking lots and sleeping till the cows come home, iris is even a bit or a porker which makes her even more cute! They're 4+5 and i rescued them in march so i havent had them very long. I think it is a over-protection thing sometimes.

I'm going to ring the vet anyway to see if they have an exotics or piggie vet. If not ill ring the one back home with my mother. i seem to remember one that specialised in guinea pigs if hes still there, he saved my minnie years ago.

Thanks for your comments, they've really helped. :)p

I'm sure you are doing everything right and we can all understand what it is like to worry about them when they are absolutely fine. If you ever need help with anything all you have to do is ask and someone on here will help you :)
