I am trying to bond the two now lonely sows together, Eppie lost her friend 6 months ago before I took her on and Treacle Button's sister died two days ago.
Second day of trying to bond vaseline on their botts lots of toys and food in the run lots of humping by Button and teeth chattering but then trying to bite each other on the head area, so I separated them. Not sure if this was the right thing to do?
It would be so good if this worked as otherwise they are going to be 2 lonely piggies...:(

try giving them a bath together, then they've had a shared experience and smell the same as each other too. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Is it possible for you to have them living side by side with interaction through the bars/mesh? That way, they can get used to each other for a couple of weeks before you give it another try. Then there might not be so much aggro.

I have made the experience that with older piggies the "slowly slowly" generally approach works better.

Eventually start by giving them run time together and slowly build it up step by step. You can then judge better whether it is successful, although you have to brace yourself for a certain amount of dominance behaviour.

Thank you to you both will give them a bath and then put their cages next to each other and take it slowly. Will let you know.sx:)

I found that a slow step-by-step introduction worked better for my four year old Fflur, so I could do it at the speed she could cope with, whereas I felt secure in introducing younger girls straight away.

Have a look at these threads for more tips. It pays to always have a plan B! Giving a bath before trying to bond them again may help (takes away different group scent), but ultimately, it is down to whether the two of them like each other enough to get on.

When they bite each other, are they drawing blood? My sows sometimes have a go at one another but it never breaks the skin.

As long as they aren't drawing blood...you haven't a reason to seperate them.
