Made a thread yesterday about my 1.5year old male guinea pig experiencing digestion issues since Tuesday night. He's taking all his meds, CC, and syringe water, and just last night let out a bunch of tiny misshapen poops after about 20 hours of nothing. He's lost a little bit of weight, not yet enough to warrant another vet visit but I want to try and nip this in the butt as soon as possible so he doesn't lose anymore. Not sure what the cause of the issues are, as nothing showed up on the scans they did on Wednesday, but I am positive it has to do with his digestion. He will take nibbles of hay and the very very little amount of veggies I will give him; last night he started wheeking while I was feeding my other piggies and ate the tiny piece of lettuce I gave him, so I know he is at least interested in eating. I talked to my vet on Thursday night about possibly giving him some "poop soup" since the four other piggies I have are healthy, but she said there isn't a lot of scientific research to back it up and the one time she had done it it was ineffective. I've withheld from giving him anything aside from what was prescribed since I am too scared of being the reason he doesn't recover, but I've read a lot of good things about poop soup on forums. I have also heard Oxbow Digestive Support Hay tablets helped piggies recover quickly. Should I try either of these to help speed up the process, or should I just continue to watch his weight and feed him CC accordingly.

Hi

Please follow our instructions in the link below. The fresher the poos, the more chance any live microbiome has for reaching the gut in time; the window is very short.

Like with all probiotics, it depends on what exactly is going on in the gut but it definitely works in some cases and has really made a difference where traditional probiotics have failed. All you can do is give it a try - at least it is for free and doesn't do any harm, plus it mimics natural behaviour from recovering guinea pigs.
