Should I find a vet experienced with guinea pig neutering in particular?

I was at the vet today and enquired about getting one of my boys neutered, as I haven’t had luck bonding him with other males and I have a single female that I’d like to try him with. She said she’d never done a guinea pig before but had done plenty of rabbits, and was willing to do it as the procedure couldn’t be that different. Not exactly confidence inspiring but also, I suppose she has a point. I live in rural Tasmania and don’t have a great many options for vets. Nevertheless I think I will give some vets in the cities a call and see if I can find someone with experience with guinea pigs in particular.
I guess my question is, would experience with rabbits be enough? Or should I ensure I find someone who’s operated on guinea pigs before?

If you can find someone who has experience with guinea pigs the this is definitely better, but as you live in Tassie your options might be limited.
I think rabbit experience is a good start, as it shows they at least have an understanding of small animal anaesthesia.
One thing that might help is contacting the RSPCA or any other welfare or rescue group that handles guinea pigs and asking what vet they use.

It is great you are thinking about getting him neutered as it will give you a lot more bonding possibilities in the future.
