Hi again. My CBS piggy from my last thread was PTS yesterday and all of us especially her now lone sister are devastated. However I wanted to ask a question about her sister who had a dental done last Saturday. They discovered ulcers and spurs that i think were trapping her tongue and were surprised she had been managing to eat at all. They also had to trim her incisors short as they were misaligned so she was struggling to pick things up but they are already growing I think.

She is on antibiotics for a week and .2 or .3 dog lox twice a day. As soon as she came home from the dental she started eating some hay. However then she stopped. She is eating her pellets, grass and salad/vegetables but no hay at all even though seeing as she can eat grass and we saw her eat hay before we know she can do it. She doesnt want critical care. I barely get to 5mls before she makes it clear she is done. Should I be ignoring her and literally start forcing her to have a decent amount? I know she is grieving now too but she was like this before her sister left. I'm very worried for her because if she doesnt start eating hay the dental issues will quickly reappear and she will also lose weight..We do not have access to conscious dentals here so she can't be getting put under every month..But maybe she will wish to follow her sister 😞

Oh and wanted to add she has not been drinking water either

I’m sorry for your loss.

If she is not eating enough hay to keep her weight stable each morning (ensure you are weighing daily) then yes she needs to be syringe fed but no you don’t force her to have more than she can handle at each sitting. 5ml is probably as much as she can manage in one go - that is fine, it just means you need to carry out more sittings, enough so that her weight is stable the next morning.
