Hi I have two sets of boars of various ages. should i see if all fours boars could get on and realise my dream of a male guinea pig Utopia or am I being naive and setting myself up for trouble? has anyone done this and if so how did it go? i have read that some boars who are established in pairs or groups might fight if they smell new boars and this is whats stopping me from letting them get to know each other. I thought that if i wheeled there two cages close enough so that they could smell and see each other that maybe i could judge if there might be trouble, but I'm put off by the thought that there could be trouble in open or both of the cages and all or any of them may find it disruptive. All advice greatly appreciated :)

i personally would leave them how they are otherwise if something went wrong your existing pairs may fall out :)

I have a few pairs of 3 boars in together and if i let them out to play and they go up to the other boars cages they chatter sooo much to each other and i know they will fight if i let them meet ::) However i have had 6 or more boars together at one point of various ages but if you have the space for 2 cages like now then i dont see why they need to be together if they each have another piggy in with them already O0

I have the same situation 2 pairs of boars in 2 cages. I have put them side by side in their cages and had no problem.
I built a run, so I could have 2 either side. OMG the rumbling and scenting that went on.
I am going to leave them as they are. O0

Once when my boars were having a run out in the shed i put Murphy neutered boar in the run with a divider across next to my established pair Jimmy and Joe at the time Murphy lived on his own so i thought he would like the company. Murphy and Jimmy were teeth chattering at each others and being really nasty through the divider i had to move Murphy out of the way.

If the divider had not been in the middle of them both, that would have been horrible.

Now Murphy has a wife so no need for him to go near the boys for company.

Not sure if you would want to risk upsetting things.

How old are they?

Momo and squeaky are my eldest pair and i think are brothers they are about seven months old, Rusty i rescued just before Christmas and can only guess by his size and a bit of what i know of his history that he is about four maybe five months, but that's a guess and my baby domino is about 3 months old. I'm guessing there ages makes a difference to there behaviour? :o

i think it depends on personality more than anything, but i wouldnt risk it :) you have four happy boars so its probably best to keep it that way :)

Try them in a side by side run first, watch their reaction.
I felt when I did it I may risk the bonds of the existing pairs.
Good luck.
