Sheltie dogs

They are a lovely breed. I think they tend to be a bit shy to strangers, but that's probably also due to personal character and upbringing.
In Austria, there are quite a few Shelties in Agility, so they probably need a lot of exercise and work for their mind.
If I ever have enough time to have a dog, Shelties would be one of the breeds I would have a closer look at.

An old friend of mine used to breed and show Shelties. They were lovely dogs. She spent ages grooming them and she said whenever they did a poop she had to clean the fur around their bum and back legs :vom: and whenever they did a wee she had to quickly clean them up so the wee wouldn't stain the fur.

My (maternal) grandparents used to have a Sheltie when I was a girl. He was called Rex and such a lovely dog. He used to like his bed made up in a large cardboard box (so it looked like a house) in the kitchen.....if he was getting under people's feet they would say to him "in your box". He would then begrudgingly go and sit or lie down in there, but would kind of do a deep growly type mutter under his breath as if answering back!

A couple of friends have downsized to Shetland Sheepdogs from larger herding breeds and seem very happy with them. They are gentle, sensitive dogs, I would say that the breed's downside for me would be the amount of grooming required, and they are very, very yappy!
