My girls have been with me for a week and are settling in well. I'd like to let them have a play outside in the next week or so.

I have an octagonal metal run with a net cover/sunshade arriving tomorrow and would like a little shelter to go in it.

Please show me what you've got in your outside runs and give me your recommendations. Betty and Norrie are grateful!

I haven't got any photos, but I usually put a couple of cardboard tubes and a wooden hut in the run :) I don't personally like using the plastic ones as I feel they heat up quite a lot if the sun stays on them at all.

Just to be safe I go for the tubes :)

I saw a photo where someone had used a big ceramic plant pot on its side with lots of hay inside. The piggies looked really comfy and plenty of shade.

Thank you guys, all great ideas. I can grab some of those tomorrow, and if it's warm the girls can go outside.

Cardboad boxes are great for hiding in. You can also use log arches such as these, all of my piggies have them, they are brilliant: http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/accessories/bridges_stairs/bridges/227525

If you do use any plastic hideys, make sure they are in the shade at all times otherwise they will become very hot.

When the sun goes down or behind a cloud, temperatures do drop a little, so if you wanted to give them a warm shelter for when they feel the cold you could put a thick sheet of newspaper on the ground, topped with hay inside of a cardboard box. That's what I do. :)
Alternatively you could line one of these with newspaper and hay, with the added advantage of being able to use it as a carrier for putting them outside or bringing them in (a tunnel does the same job though) : http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches/single_storey_hutches/outback/100178

I have a run just like yours, the cover's great for providing shade against the sun and you can anchor it to the ground using the poles that connect each of the sides (at least, I can with mine, not sure about yours), although I would keep a close eye on your piggies while they're out just to be on the safe side, and make sure the cover is securely fastened.
