Hi, The cage we bought for our 2 piggies had a plastic shelf and plastic ramp with it which we have never used. As we now have a third and I am needing more space, I am wondering if these are safe to use for piggies (can they fall off the ramp /ledge?) while I research making a C&C cage (thanks to advice of those in this forum) I was debating on trying it fixed just over the pigloo with another bed or food above? Thank you

I have a shelf in mine and my piggles don't have any problem using it. They don't use the ramp so I took it off. They just jump up its only slightly higher than the pigloos though so its not difficult for them.

What type of cage/shelf is it? If it's not too high they might be able to jump on and off as DaveyCavy says

I'm not to sure what your ramp looks like, maybe you could post it up to give us a better idea, but however unlikely, I believe theres always a small chance a piggie could fall off a ramp, especially if you have more than one where one piggie is going up the ramp whilst the other is coming down. I made my ramp out of the C&C Grids, Correx, a hot glue gun, bulldog clips, cable ties and a fleece blanket. Now I've taken it out because I prefur the floor space the ladder takes up :hb:

A C&C cage would be a great move though and your Piggies will love it.

It's solid plastic and fits onto the bars with about 8 fixers at whatever height you wish., the length of about half the cage. I took it out when we first got them as it was harder to catch them and I was nervous they would fall! (they were 12 weeks old then, now nearly 6 months). So thinking of fixing it just above pigloo height.,

Have just this minute ordered a pack of C&C panels from grendle so I will start the new build and add bits to it as it takes shape, and I can see how it will fit! Exciting!

I was very fortunate as my better half already had the the grids and was using them to put her shoes in (what a complete waste) so the day before I brought back my first Piggie, I cunningly removed her shoes and stole...sorry, borrowed her shoe rack to make my boys Cage :shh:

That's hilarious, lucky you're still her other half tho, she must have a sense of humour!

Sounds like a good swap! Don't know how much the Costco deal was but I've just bought 26 panels for £40, which was the best I could find..

That's about how much my Mrs paid for hers before I covescated it!

Here's a pigture of Tubby coming down the ramp I put together for him. Its pretty kool as I put a little turn at the bottom for him!img_qKOWtOgDod.webp

What did you use to make the ramp?
How did you fix it? To the edge of your loft or did you make a hole in the middle of the loft?

Berry is so sweet!:D

I used cable ties to attach my ladder to my loft, I placed 3 holes through the correx on both ladder and loft, then threaded the cable ties through the holes and through the Metal Grids on both ladder and loft. Very important to place the cable ties through the actual grids and NOT just the correx as it wouldn't be strong enough!

I think all piggies are cute!
Did you bend a wire panel to make the base of the ramp? Looks cool.

Yes, I put a pair of gym shoes on, stood on the wire and pulled it back (be careful, mind your back)

Thank you that's brilliant help, have only had piggies (2) since October and somehow came home with another on Friday night so need a bigger cage and most people on here advise C&C. The price of a full set up plus delivery is too much so am going to have a try from scratch. Only ordered wire panels so far, going to see what we make then order support bars for loft, correx etc... And now I know how to make a ramp. Thank you.

Well I should dig out my ramp to show you as there's a few other bits I've not explained, such as how to cut and shape the correx which goes on top of the wire ramp, Maybe you have your own way an ideas though. So let me know if you'd like me to post it up.

Yes that would be great, my ideas are coming from everyone on this site and your ramp looks like a good idea to pinch !

Hmmmm? A picture maybe, if it's easy to see? So long as I can ask questions of I can't quite make it out? If that's ok?
