Hi All

I'm after a bit of advise, i'm thinking of moving my 4 sows from a C&C cage in my spare bedroom (where they have lived since i got them 2 years ago) into a outdoor shed and i have a couple of questions:

1. Will the piggies be ok with this kind of move? they are very much indoor piggies at the moment and i'm concerned that they wouldn't be able to cope with living outdoors.

2. What kind of shed set up would be best for 4 piggies? e.g shed size, what kind of heat source would be needed for winter, would they need a light source?

Sorry if these are stupid questions i just wanted to make sure i'm doing the best for them before starting such a big project.

And if anyone has any pictures of their shed set up they could share with me for inspiration that would be amazing.

Thanks All

I did have a pig shed as my OH is allergic to hay, but I'm afraid it's now a regular shed!

It needed fully insulating to give it a chance of being warm enough in the winter (with a little heater and it has a solar light) and in the summer it's position meant it got waaaay too hot, so they were inside anyway during the summer and the winter whilst we did upgrades but the OH decided to put the lawnmower in it over winter, and the pressure washer etc. To give him more room in the 'workshop'(garage) And then he didn't want to move them back to the garage so I got to keep them inside!

Sorry - don't recall being tagged on this thread .

My shed has heating - I wouldn't keep them outdoors without heating .

There are pictures of my set up here ...

My piggies are now indoor piggies but when they were living in a shed, I made sure it was insulated and preditor proof as my piggies were living free range.

I layed the floor with Lino followed by lots of newspaper, shavings and hay as well as two small open hutches filled with hay, plenty of fleecy cosy items and snuggle safe heat pads during the winter

My four rabbits live in a 6 x 6 shed with a 7 x 5 run. It is insulated and has lino on the floor and a hutch with no door that they love to sit on!

It has electricity so i use a small oil filled radiator in the winter and a light. It is so easy to look after them in all weathers.

The main thing is to avoid damp and draughts. Good luck.

Oh yes pets palace pigs (?) has a lovely shed full of guinea pigs on youtube.

Sorry I somehow missed this tag!

My girls are in a c&c inside an 8ft x 6ft shed. I've bubble wrapped the walls to keep out any wind, then covered the bubble wrap with wallpaper (just to make it look pretty).

In the winter I bubble wrap the window and add loads of hideys and hay. I often have at least two snuggle safe heat pads too. I tend to put fleece throws over the top of the cage too. We had an awful winter last year and they were fine in this set up. :)

Summer I just keep the door open. My shed is positioned in a sheltered area of the garden that doesn't receive direct sunlight for more than a couple of hours during the morning.

Hope this helps a little? :)

I missed this tag too! I have a 10x8 shed, the hutches are built into the end, the buns on the left have it over 2 levels and the pigs over 3. During the winter or inclement weather, the door is shut, during bright weather, the door is open. You can see the power cable going into the shed, that's wired to a double socket so I have light and heating. There is also insulation between shed and hutch walls for added warmth. The shed has a cat flap as you see as the buns free range during the summer. Normally they have full access to the garden but the daughters staffie is staying with us till Sunday. ;)
