I am currently using snowflake wood shavings and news paper in my cage. The problem is, the lady who collects newspapers for me is no longer having them so I need to find an alternative.

Would puppy pads work rather than newspapers?

I'd be worried about them eating them mate, ours always used to pull up the newspaper....

Mine eat them if they can get at them under the vetbed. I have to tuck all the edges under which you wouldn't be able to do with shavings. Perhaps you could give it a go one day when you are home and can observe what's happening. The best and cheapest ones I have found are in B&M Bargains £3.99 for 30.

i use puppypads under all my disposable substrate, ensure there is an inch layer or more of shavings, that the pads are fully covered.newspapers are difficult to get hold of in the qauntity i would need.the trend is for E newspapers ! :)

I use just the cheap ones from pets at home. I buy the 100 pack and 8 do my 6x2 C&C and need changing around every 5 days or 3 days in high traffic areas. I then have Aubiose on top of them. Just be careful as some pigs will pull them up and shred them. None of mine have ever shredded them but just be wary and remove them if they start digging them up.

I've used puppy pads for about 4 yrs.My girls have never chewed them but they do chew the newspaper thats under them. They tend to ruck the puppy pads upto block the entrance to their house or tunnel under them..playing hide & seek!
I find them great at clean up time..just roll them up into a parcel..no trail of hay all over the carpets
