Hi,

A couple of hours ago I bathed both my piggies using shampoo. While bathing 2 things happened:

1) One of my piggies (Winter) was splashing a lot and I think he might have gotten shampoo in his eye and now his eye is slightly red in one corner and there is a small white circle around his eye - I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about what to do.

2) While I was drying my other piggy (Pickles), I noticed that behind one ear there was a slight dent where there was a patch of skin. I have heard about ringworm in guinea pigs and was wondering whether this was normal or could it be a sign of ringworm. I have checked him everywhere else and there were no other bald patches.

Thank you in advanced!

Oh dear, I think a trip to the vet with both of them. Eyes can deteriorate very quickly and if your other piggie has possibly got ringworm it needs confirming by a vet and both piggies may need treatment x

:agr: Eyes can be seen by any vet so you don’t have to restrict yourself to your usual exotics vet.

My Edward once got shampoo in his eye. I took him to the vet and they prescribed a weeks worth of eye drops so I definitely recommend a vet visit.

Guinea pigs naturally have a bald spot behind their ears but if you suspect ringworm, a vet can diagnose and treat

Thank you! The bald spot behind his ear was my main concern and I am glad to hear that probably isn't ringworm. I will take Winter to the vets ASAP!

Did you get the eye seen to yet? Remember that can be seen by a general vet.

No, not yet. Although the vets appointment has been scheduled for tomorrow evening

I got worried about the bald spot too as they are most visable when they stretch their necks but I co firmed all 4 ears have bald spots!

It’s good you got an appointment. Hopefully the eye will be fine with some treatment 🙂
