So, I was thinking of making my pigs a loft once we get the new cage. It will be a 2x4 c&c cage. I can’t expand it, so if I make a loft it needs to be inside the cage.
I have senior pigs, so the ramp must be shallow.

Some materials I have are...
- Storage bins
- Fabric
- Zip ties
- Wood
- Strong rope
- Screws

Any DIY ideas?

You can zip tie the edge of the storage bins to the grids.

I made a removable loft for my cage. I'll try to find some pics.

How deep is the storage bin?
Mine is only 6", but I added coroplast to make taller walls.
Here's the pic. It's almost 2 grid wide by 1.5 grid.
I poked holes on the side and zip tie it to a piece of wood, then added hooks so it can hang from the top of the grids.IMG_1152.webp

Mine are 18” long, 12” wide, and 10” high.

10" high is pretty tall. They won't have enough clearance to go under the loft if you line the top of the loft with the top of the grids.

Oh yeah, that’s probably going to be a problem!
Well I have another storage bin too. 13.5” long, 11.5” wide, 5.5” tall.
I’m a little reluctant to use this one, so if there’s another way I think I’d go with that.

Okay. I know it’s been a long time, but I still haven’t got them into a larger cage. The cage stand we are building to hold the 10.5 square foot cage is taking longer than expected, but we will definitely have it done in about two more weeks.

I just realized how tiny my loft idea was... I’m now thinking about making a larger one (2 x 1 grids) out of coroplast. For the ramp grip, I was thinking about using sand paper and then adding stripes of hot glue... is that safe for piggies? If so, what grit sandpaper should I use?

I was thinking about using a towel for the ramp grip like @lissie did, but I don’t know if my pigs would be able to grip onto any of the towels we have.

I have no idea if sandpaper is safe or not if chewed. Personaly going down this idea route I would have thought of some skateboard grip (it’s adhesive backed) coated with some petsafe paint to protect their feet, help keep it clean and to seal it off to minimize the chewing chance, although I am not sure how safe that would be either.:soz:

Liners work well on ramps, or just fleece clipped into place. They grip just fine on it.

I don't think sandpaper is safe. It would probably rub on their footpads.

My favorite ramp liner is bathroom rug cut in half. I clip the top to the grid with binder clips. I can remove it, and wash weekly with the fleece.

I’m so sorry. I have been thinking of many ideas and changing my mind every day!

Now that we finally have the cage set up, I don’t think we should build a loft at all.

But thanks so much, @lissie for giving suggestions!

I did end up using your binder clip ideas, though. To clip the fleece liner onto the cage sides. It really helped!
