Hi everyone, back again 🙈

Had our 2 girls since Christmas day and they are still just as scared of us as day one 😭 I don't know what am doing wrong or what I can do to make it better 😭 it's making me feel like a terrible owner... They just run and hide if we come near them at all...

I thought I was doing my best but I must be wrong.... 😭

You aren’t doing anything wrong. It can take a long time for some piggies to settle - one of mine took six weeks but the other took a year and a half. It took a lot of patience and repeatedly going back to basics with him but we got there in the end.
Make sure you announce your presence long before you actually get to them, don’t loom over their cage. Sit next to them and talk to them. This guide has further tips

I think that the act of patience should be mentioned repeatedly when someone takes on piggies. Be patient, they will get used to you eventually. My girls had been here a year and would have hidden under the liner if they had the chance. Instead they hid under the bath mats 🙄😆

It will definitely take time. I have Guinea pigs I've had for 6 months who are still terrified when I give them a little stroke;running away. I thought it was me doing something wrong but my newest pigs I've had for a few weeks are the bravest of all, purring when stroked, running up to me all the time, jumping on me, making me feel uncomfortable with how brave they are and are constantly playing with my toes making me nervous 😂. It all dependent on the individual pigs. I can't even get one stroke off my other 5, 95% of the time! I've managed to give the others a little gentle tap above their nose in response to food. I always feed mine guinea pig nuggets by hand and then go in for a sneaky stroke. Have you tried handfeeding yours yet? That was a game changer for me. I'm sure you're doing all the right things alot of it is their nature. Good luck! You haven't even had them that long xx
