Hi,

Haven't been on for a while. But need some advice.

I have just taken in two rescue girls pigs. They're around 6 months old. Previous owner bought them and never bothered with them. I suspect they've never been handled and are quite skittish.

This is what I am doing at the minute:

1) They're separate from my other piggies, but can see and hear them.
2) I am leaving them alone today

Then...
3) will start off talking to them.
4) Stroking them but not picking up etc...

Is there anything else I can do to help them be settled for picking up?

Thanks in advance xx

Hi. Welcome back to the forum. It sounds like you are doing a fab job. I would leave them alone as much as possible for a few days - exactly what you are doing.

When I first got mine I put a towel over one end of the cage too as I had read that this helps to keep them calm.

They will in time get used to the new smells and sounds - it will just take a while for them to build confidence and trust. In a few days you could start talking to them and eventually start offering them veggies from your hand. that often seems to help build piggies confidence up.

Good luck xx
