I've has my boys a week now and they're almost fully confident in taking food from our hands now.

I'm thinking of handling them soon, only so they can have a run around in a pen. Is it too early to do this? What would anyone else recommend?

And is it okay if they get a little spooked when I put them in the play pen the first time? I also haven't weighed or done their nails yet so I need to establish some sort of handling for these tasks.

Cleaning them is fine for the moment as they just go into their little bedroom.

Thankyou in advance :)

My two still don't like being picked up in their cage so whenever they need to come out I get them to go into their cardboard tunnel then pick them up in that. I also use that when I weigh them it is so much easier.
I think they should be OK to start handling them now the advice I was given when we first brought the girls home was to hold them before we put them in their cage for the first time then leave them alone for a few days to get used to their cage then start taking them out for lap time and build up the time every day. They are very clever and let you know when they've had enough and want to go back to their cage.

HI.

Normally you are told don't Handle for two days, so yes you are fine to handle them now.

They will be fine to get used to a play pen it might be scared for a few days they will get used to it.

We always start off after a few days by trying to hand feed a few veggy treats in the cage by offering some nice veggies to the new piggy when they are in their hidey, hopefully they will take it off you as you hold it in for them... after a while try offering it a little further from the hidey so they edge out and take it from you.
Food is the best way to bribe, use food when you get round to lap times also. Start lap time for a short amount of time at first and build up. We started off we laptimes for 1 minute with new piggies then pop them back, slowly increasing the time. They will soon associate you with food and good things but at first it takes a while to gain their trust.
