Hello everybody. I am being very indecisive about how to set up my piggies hutch. I have always had shavings in the top layer but they get everywhere and make the bottom level very hard to clean. So this week I have tried fleece blanket with puppy pads underneath. This is better, but the pigs are burrowing underneath so I have ordered some proper cage liners.

Anyway.... in the bedroom area I normally stuff loads of hay, but if I now have fleece this is a nightmare with hay all over it. I don't want to put a hay rack in as they like to snuggle in it. I've attached some photos of the top layer with fleece but any suggestions of how I can improv this would be great! I'm particularly looking for fleece and hay solutions.

A hay tray is definitely something to try! Perhaps I need some cuddle cups or something that they can snuggle in instead so they don't need tonnes of hay in there? How much hay do other people put in?

I put a whole lot in sometimes when I don't use a hay rack as my hay is pretty cheap, so I guess it can depend on the expense of hay :)

About the bedding, CGP, I hope it's okay to add that you could use easibed? It spreads sometimes but isn't so spreadable as wood shavings to me. I find wood shavings are a pain to get off fleece.

In the bedroom area I say this is the sleeping quarters, and needs to have a 'duvet' in lol. So the whole area is covered in meadow hay, and because meadow hay is easy to fluff up you can get it quite high :)

I use litter trays with megazorb then hay over it. I also just put hay in cardboard boxes so that they can get thrown out :)

My hutch set up doesn't use fleece but I have found litter trays to be a God send with the wees and poo! It goes, puppy pads, newspapers litter trays - I have two, one in each corner with a pad and hay, fitch (which I am not massively keen on) down the middle. Whilst they still wee and poo all over the show so much of it goes in the trays that I change them every two days and it really keeps the smell down. They don't have a bedroom area, it is all open!

I use fleece in my hutch. I just cosys and hideys in the 'bedroom' area. They have hay in a tray downstairs.

:)

Such great ideas from everyone. Can anyone post a link to some decent fleece blankets from Amazon?
