I found a cut on my boy, Rocky before and delt with the fact -somehow- he got a cut from his cage (it's a c&c) but I wasn't sure how. Put some antibiotics on it and he was fine within a week or so but I had him out yesterday and noticed another one. In the almost exact same spot on the same side. I've run my hands all over his cage while he was out there is absolutely NOTHING that he could be getting poked on at all, and at that there's no way it would leave a wound of this size (it's about the size of a pea). So, this leads me to believe, do GPs self mutilate? I have no idea why he would. 98) I may sound a bit bonkers, but there is nothing else it could be! And if so, how do I stop it? I certainly don't want him to keep doing this to himself. -sighs-

:-\

if its not deep then it could be a skin condition? i had a piggy when i was younger that had excema (sp?) and she used to bleed and get little sores on her skin, my mum had to bathe her in special stuff the vet give us.. i cant remeber much as i was only 6/7 years old.. id take him to the vets to have a check up :)

Where is the cut,and is it a cut or a sore?.Gps do not normally self harm, but if a piggy is in pain it will sometimes bite and tear at the area the discomfort is coming from.

I'll see if we can't take him to the vet.

And it's around his shoulder-area.

I'd say something is making him itch and he's scratching it! Definetley take him to the vets. I hope you get it sorted. Keep us posted!

Oh love poor Rocky :'( if this has been going on for a bit, he needs some medicated shampoo and a visit to the vets O0
Sending some healing wheeks :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Aww poor Rocky :smitten: There is probably a reason why he is scratching (a skin condition/mites/lice?) so a vet trp is for the best O0

What bedding is the guinea on?
Whats the skin like?
Have a look at Gorgeous Guineas there's a page with identifying features of skin problems there.

Edit: Just seen its on his shoulder so its possibly a skin problem then. As well as the vets you could send a pigture of it to Gorgeous Guineas to look at. I recommend bathing him in Manuka and Neem shampoo too (take note of the time you need to leave between vet treatmnent and bathing :) ) A CocoNeem Melt may help him too :)

I agree with Karen. As it is just one spot it could, possibly,be ringworm.Chrissie at GG will be able to help you.

I agree - take him to the vet. Chances are it would be a good idea to get him treated for mites with ivermectin to be on the safe side - this is a common cause of sores from scratching.
