Last night I was walking to put my guinea pig in his cage and I accidentally dropped him when he squirmed around. It’s about a 5 and a half foot drop. Afterwards he had a seizure and was coughing up blood for a few minutes. Then after he was acting fine. It’s the next morning and he’s just scared. I’m not sure if he’s ok or not.

Please take your guinea pig to see a vet urgently.
Guinea pigs can't vomit so the blood is probably from a mouth injury, but he needs to be properly checked for things like broken bones and internal injuries.
If nothing else after such a big fall he will be bruised and in pain and need some medication for this.
Please take him to a vet as soon as possible.

Please take your piggy to a vet urgently. Any fall, particularly one from such a height and with the after effects you are reporting needs to be urgently seen by a vet.

Let us know how it goes. I hope piggy is okay.

Fingers crossed he is ok. Could his cage be moved somewhere nearer the floor? Otherwise it may be better if you could carry him in a secure container/box?

Thank you for all the positive comments and advice i just got back from taking him to the vet and she thinks he’ll be ok.

Oh that’s great news, you have been very lucky, try and see if you can move the cage to a lower level 😀

That’s good news. Was it a wound in his mouth then?

Will you be getting him a friend or does he have one already? We’d love to see photos.

The wound was in his mouth it was in his cheek and he has a brother who is keeping him lots of company through his recovery
