So I'm just toying with a second level idea, but I'm
Confused!

How do the connectors connect to an upper level? Cos I'm looking at mine & they're flat on top?!

Hi, you will need to take all the connectors off around the edges and turn them (the connectors) on their sides. This way you can connect the side panels for the second floor.
You'll also need to support the lower level, as it will sag with a floor above. I have previously used white plastic piping (from DIY stores). It can easily be cut with a hacksaw and used to prop up the upper level.
This year i'm trying lengths of metal rods (horizontally) to support the upper floor as i didn't really like the plastic "pillars" getting in the way on the lower floor.

Hope this helps :)

Oh god really?! I didn't think it looked like people had pipes supporting?!

Getting too complex for me I'm a total idiot with c&c mallethead

How big do you want the second level? If it's just 1x2, you don't really need support. Use lot of cable ties though.

If you want a bigger second level, you can get a wooden rod and slide it under the second level.

1x2 I should think yes... I'll have to have an experiment in a minute...

Que entire thing falling apart!

Sorry i hope i didn't scare you! I thought you meant a whole second level, in which case you would definitely need to support it.

I just despair of this c&c, it's the worst thing I ever did. I wish they were in a prope cage..

Haha, took me forever to figure out those connectors... my mate came over, took one look at them and made me feel a complete idiot, so you are not alone in your confusion!

I have an L-shaped top level... like... would be 2x2 but I left one square out for the ramp, if that makes sense. I don't need any support under there, it seems ok. However. It's cat-proof so has more grids on the top, which I leaned on the other day to look a something behind the cage. The whole thing pulled away from itself and nearly came to bits. Cue the OH and I spending an hour reinforcing everything with nearly an entire pack of cable ties, so I can't stress that enough really. Pretty solid now. :)

Yeah see I need a roof really because when I move back to my mums my dog lives there & altho the door would always be closed I'd rather they had a roof... plus to be honest I don't trust little Billy not to find a way out. I never understand how people can have tunnels & things in there & not worry that they could get on top of one & be off?!

So I would need more grids.... by the time you do all this you really haven't saved any money have you!

No, I've probably spent about £150 all said, including fleeces etc. But that's about double what I'd spend on a pet shop cage and they've got three times the space at least, so depends how you look at it I guess!

This is what I'm thinking, do I keep going & spend even more or buy a regular Indoor cage & sell the grids!

I didn't use the joining thingamajigs I used clear wire ties to make the second level using about 4 each grid on all sides, it is very secure all the same. I needed a someone else to help with it though.

You could quite easily make a lifting roof using wire ties and then to shut it securely for your naughty guinea a cat or dog collar, then it would be easy to undue each time. Just a thought.

I spent less than half the price of a shop bought cage on my C&C and its twice the size! £15 on grids from B&Q and a £30 sheet of correx. Plus a quid for some cable ties from the pound shop ;)
