I am thinking about building a loft. I want to have it removable and I want the ramp to not be so steep. What is everyone using? Pics and advice are greatly appreciated.

I get most of my stuff from guineapigcagesstore.com. It has gotten a little pricey because I keep adding more and changing my cage layout, but they have great stuff. My piggies love the “lookout lounge”

I had some doubts about adding the ramp and loft but added them and am very happy with the results. I have a lot of corrugated cardboard from the store and make most anything but went with the ramp from GuineaPigCages as well. I have been getting better with making similar as what they sell and only for the same reason-a little pricey.

So, honestly, I am ecstatic at the usage for the new ramp and loft. The guinea pigs really love them and one of my girls will go up more then the others to have some privacy. Adding different things based on personality but it's added a lot. They have gotten to where they use it as part of their running track and will popcorn down it then fly at high speed in laps around the cage. This is only the experience I have for them but it has added for sure.

We have another identical with my daughter for the boys only I have gotten better with making the cardboard bases (I made the one on the upper level here) and made a full one for her main level as well. I have the supplies, just ready to make the lower one for this cage as well but we are having babies next month so I am extending it a couple more feet and plan on adding another loft the same on the other side with another ramp. I've had the huts as well but they seem to love the forests as well. Hope it gives other ideas to you.

Heather Rose - can I add your recommendation for this site to this thread ? Is it a US company ?

your ramp covers look great !

@fanniephina is the ramp too steep for your piggies?

Not all guineas will adjust to ramps as steep the one above - but some will . When I had a C&C cage, to make the ramp less steep , I made my loft 1/2 height . I've mislaid my pictures () but the pictures in this thread will give you an idea.

Ready Made C & C Cages In Yorkshire Area

My ramps were fixed with cable ties and , if I wanted to " close off" the loft area , I raised the ramps ( a bit like a castle drawbridge ) .

We have an advice thread . When I find my photos, I will ask admin to add them as I prefer ramps that have sides ( Guineas feel safer using ramps with sides ).

You can use all sorts of materials to make ramps . I have used wooden ones . Another good material is guttering ( Available in DIY Shops) - with some carpet for grip .

This is our advice thread ...

Ramps In Guinea Pigs Cage

@fanniephina is the ramp too steep for your piggies?

Absolutely no. I have a 4 week old, an 8 week old and a four month old surprise pregnant guinea pig here. The one upstairs is for a 4 month old and also an older girl. I had the same doubts but went on guineapigcages.com. These ramps came from them with an added part to attach as well as an open grid for a door. I only purchased one for the $24 to test and one by one, they went up easily. The baby was less sure at first but in less then an hour was walking without problems while the one shown in the pics and the other black one literally fly up and down it. The others were the same. The ramp comes with carpet but I also purchased the ramp cover from the sister store whom has an attached link. They hold on very easily. Some others have said they have had to use hay or a treat to coax them up and then all was fine but mine truthfully had no problems using it all day. It is sturdy and the sides are also made of hard corrugated cardboard. I have only attached the top with twist ties under their pad and felt. The sides are covered with felt as well.

The company is based in the US.
Reinforced Cage Ramp - Ramps - C&C Cages for Guinea Pigs

As stated above as well, we have a home depot nearby that also carries corrugated cardboard and I have all sizes, if needed. I believe I could possibly make a ramp that is half and in two parts to cut it being steep and was prepared. But honesty, this is not as steep as it seems in the pic and not one of the guinea pigs are even hesitant to go up and down.

Thanks!

I noticed I wrote twist ties that were used but it's the wrong words. You probably know already but used the plastic ties everyone else has, I believe. Wanted to be sure to get that right.
