I just wondered what the general opinion was on science selective? My guinea pigs have come on leaps and bounds since I have had them on it, after being fed rubbish mixed food at the breeders. I've read lots of positive reviews online, I just wondered what anyone else thought of it. While they're happy and healthy I don't think I'll change it, but I like to keep in the know :)

I don't feed it but only because I had issues several times with my boars getting them stuck over their teeth because of the holes. I ended up breaking the nuggets in half to use up the bag and never bought them again. I think they are as good as most and better than some in terms of content unless you have pigs with health issues that need grainless nuggets.

Ditto to @piggieminder . My boys love them but they get stuck on one of my boys teeth.

I finished the bag by snapping them all in half.

I was looking for new pellets a few months ago as one of the boys has digestive issues so I got a small trial bag on it again. He had a very gurgly tummy after them so I binned them. Weird as it's the same pig who ate them before and had them stuck on his teeth.

Ahh okay! I've never had any issues with them getting stuck yet, and so far no issues with grain either!

I'll stick with them for now and then if I have any problems I'll look for something else. What do you suggest is another good brand? Burgess?

I've been feeding this to mine for years without any problems at all. Perhaps I am lucky with none of mine getting them stuck on their teeth

Oh dear, I didn't realise they could get stuck in teeth! I've not had that problem luckily, now I'm wondering whether I should phase it out. I like to feed a variety of nuggets, but there isn't a very good selection of nuggets :/

I feed selective, Burgess and Harringtons currently. I'd love to feed the Rosewood nuggets but I can't really afford it :(

I do a mixture of nuggets too :)

Can you buy online? The JR farm grainless is very similar to the Rosewood nuggets, but slightly cheaper at £3.33/Kg for the small bag vs £3.50/Kg for the Rosewood (which adds up over time!). I buy piggy food from ZP at the same time as buying cat things (food and litter) though, so I'm always up into the free postage bracket. While if you'd just be buying that, with the addition of postage it may not end up more cost effective.

Mine have had them since they were in the pet shop and seem fine. I think switching them abruptly can cause problems, so perhaps if you plan to do so you can gradually phase in whatever new stuff you choose?

Yeah, that's how I did it before. I dont think I will change them just yet though, they seem quite happy, I just like to know what's out there haha

Mine love them, I don't have many problems with them getting caught, only had that once or twice, I did try reporting this to the company and I got a response telling me that it wasn't a wide spread problem, I said it was and that people just don't report it to them.. they were meant to review the shape... don't see why there needs to be a hole in the middle.

I reported it too, but I was told that noone had reported the problem before, so maybe it was a problem with my pig. Jon Snow is quite a small pig so maybe his teeth are thinner and easier to fit through the holes.

I used to feed Burgess but my current pigs don't like the blackcurrant ones and his dodgy tum can't have the mint ones.

My boys currently have a mixture of Harringtons, Oxbow, Rosewood and Versele Laga. I'm trying to swap them slowly onto just the Versele Laga ones.

Yea I might have a look, I'm sure by the time I stock up on everything I would get free postage too :))

I wanna look into oxbow as well, not heard of the Versele ones before?

Versele Laga are grainless ones like JR Grainless. One of my pigs has digestive issues so I'm trying to swap them onto grainless pellets.

Never heard of "Versele Laga" will go and check them out, thanks Jaycey :)

I've used Science Selective pellets for years and never had any problems BUT just the other day one of my boys got one stuck over his lower teeth. By the time I'd put hay down and caught him he'd managed to dislodge it himself. I'm just wondering if it happens more than we think it does and they manage to sort it out themselves? He was obviously distressed when it was stuck there and I'm a bit nervous of feeding it now :/

@Kit06 As my boys really liked it and I had a big bag of it I used to snap each piece in half before putting it in their dish. Thankfully I didn't feed them many each day!

Mine eat Best Pets Guinea Pig Nuggets and love it! They had Pets at Home Nuggets when they were at Pets at Home but I phased in the Best Pets stuff. Have also tried them on Muesli as my old piggies Lenny & Gizmo preferred it to nuggets but the new family were selective eaters so phased back in Best Pets. The best price I have found for a 10kg bag of Best Pets is £14.87 from Amazon. I only buy 10kg bags as I have 5 in my piggy family.
