Hi, I had a really scary moment with my boar Odi (3 years old) a few days ago and I wanted to ask, if anyone has witnessed something like this before and if it was a single incident or the beginning of something bigger?
It was during morning veggie feeding. Everything was completely normal. Everyone was very ethusiastic about the veggies and starting so eat. I was just giving a piece of bell pepper to one of the girls when I saw Odi laying (or is it lying?) on his side without moving. My heart nearly stopped beating. I saw myself rushing to the vets (or worse). It seem to last for a long time but it couldn't have been longer than a few seconds. And in the next moment he was up again, started to eat, moved around normally. As if nothing had happened.
And everthing seems to be fine since. Odi is eating, hasn't lost any weight, no head tilt or any problems with his balance. He is very interested in the girls (he is quite a lady's boar) and is running around as usual.
Of course this episode lasted for such a short time, that I don't know if it happened more than once.

Odi is totally relaxed at home with his girls, but he doesn't like to be held at all. He lives with us since last September and was clearly not used to being held at all. I can hold him, but he tends to freak out a little, when he is not in his normal surroundings. Since it is not possible to go inside to the vets at the moment, I don't really want to take Odi if it isn't absolutely necessary. I had a chat with my favorite vet at the veterinary university in Vienna and he said that it could have been caused by a cardiovascular problem or an insulinoma but that is more likely that we won't find out what the cause was.

Has anyone had a piggy with a similar problem?
It didn't look like a senior piggy falling over and it wasn't like a piggy trying to jump onto something and falling onto his back or side. One moment he was going for a veggie, the next moment he was on his side - and then everything was normal again.
Thank you!

HI.
That does sound so scary. I have read in my little guinea pig book that sometimes they ’play dead’ but it sounded like they do it because they’re scared But it doesn’t sound like yours was scared of anything?

Hope he’s ok now and it hasn’t happened again🤞

That's strange.
Not something I had. . If you really worried you could than him to vets. . But if as you say he seems fine weight etc then if it happens again I would. Hopefully all's ok. X

Yes, if it happens again, I'm going to get an appointment with the specialist as soon as possible. My "normal" vet is great with teeth and the day to day-stuff. But when my piggies "invent" strange things to "entertain" me, I usually try to go to the specialist at the university clinic.
