So my elder girl charm has become so quiet lately somethings up. Shes gone from a puppy dog/ bubbly piggie to a pig that sits in the corner with a heartbreaking sadness in her eyes. Even my mum agrees shes upset. Shes become quiet, so quiet I'm extremly worried. She doesn seem to be sick, though shes had alot of yucky stuff coming out of her eyes today and yesterday, we had to pull it away. and theres now a small bold patch below the eye which wasnt there before. I'm so worried, she hasnt lost any piggie friends for over 2 years. is it old age? what should I do!?

Please take her to the vets asap and have her checked for URI (respiratory infection), fungal and/or an abscess in her mouth.

Weigh her daily and hand feed if necessary. Guinea pigs can lose vital body weight and go downhill very quickly if you don't act!

Thankyou. she still eats, i mean not as much as she used to stuff herself with but she does keep herself fed, but shes no longer really keen to run to the vegies, i actually have to usually put them near her face to get her to be interested, otherwise my younger girl eats most of it. shes very chubby atm but I'm keep a massive eye on her as she honestly means the world to me. I've never loved a guineapig as much as my little Charm she means more to me then anything, we've been through a hell of a lot together so this is really worrying me.

Yes, take her to the vet just to be sure. Hope you figure out what's wrong.

I think what you're describing is the typical symptoms of illness that Wiebke suggests.

Please take her to a vet, any piggy that sits looking sad is usually ill, & the fact that you have to place her veggies nearby to enable her to eat is a sign something's not right. Don't forget they are very good at hiding illness as they are prey animals.

A vet visit is really the best thing you can do right now, the sooner she is seen the better. Let us know how she gets on :)

The change in behaviour and the eye discharge is definitely enough to warrant a trip to the vet! I hope they can sort her out quickly. It's definitely better to catch things sooner than later with small animals.

Definitely take her to the vets, any dramatic change in behaviour signifies illness in guinea pigs x
