Hi there.

We just got two female Guinea pigs (called Lilu ans Eowin).
When taking them out of the cage they run away so we are forced to chase them, but thats yo be expected. Today we put them out to roam around whilst I cleaned their cage.
Again, when it came to pick them up they ran away and hid.
Basicly, as we have been chasing them about so much I am really worried that they will not trust us in the future.

What would be a good way to ensure that they are not too scared of us. Are there any suggestions on how to get them use to us and are there any good techniques for picking them up so they will trust us and not run away like loony toons.
Thanks.

Jack.

P.s
They have started to come out when we are in the room talking and don't run away unless we move too much, I guess thats a good sign at least.

Welcome to the forum!

New pigs can take a little while to settle down, if they are indoors and can see and hear you then that's great. Use two hands to pick them up (one over the shoulders) so that they are secure and then hold them against your body or use a towel for them (like a security blanket!).

Try hand-feeding them with tasty fruit and veg so that they learn good things come from human hands!

And talk to them as much as you can so they get used to your voice.

Good luck with them!

welcome to the forums from me and the girls from oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: remeber piggies are at the bottom of the food chain and to them everyone is a predator. their first instincts is to run. be patient, offer food treats. when cuddling stroke and baby talk and again offer treats. in time they will love being picked up and will be fighting over who gets cuddled first. O0 good luck with them. sending hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

Ah good, I was worried they would be scared to death of me from now on.
I'll just take it slow and give them lots of treats.
I'll let you all know how it goes.
Thanks for the help.
Oh yeah, and my pigs seem to love eating grass, is it ok to feed them alot of grass?
Thanks again.
