My boar Cosmo has been terrified of me since day one. I have tried and tried to bond with him I talk to him everyday I sit with him at floor time and let him climb on me, he is used to my scent he even gets excited when I pull up in the driveway! But recently he has started to bite. He is only 8 months old I have had him for 4 months and I have made very little progress. He has never bitten me just nibbled but he bites my boyfriend who does a lot with him as well. He will bite pretty much everyone but me. However as soon as I try to touch him he freaks out. He doesn't just run a little to get away he jumps up ing the air and zips away. He is a little better than he used to be but not by much. I can not pick him up and at fisrt it was ok but now I need to to be able to clip his nails and he is going to be neutered soon so he can live with our new baby Marley who was supposed to be a boy but she is not. I am worried that if I can not touch him I will not be able to make sure he is healing correctly after his surgery. I still have a month or so before this takes place they are just in different cages for now.Any tips?

* I tried the towel trick...I couldn't get him in the towel. I literally can not even touch him with out him freaking out.

Make sure your down at his level, piggies dont like things hovering over them.. or their instinct is to run.

One of mine runs if he thinks I'm going to pick him up, I usually trick him by stroking him on the head for a bit then slowly move my hand round his body :)).

If your nervous, worried or anxious.. your pigs will pick up on it. Stay calm and relaxed with him, sometimes it pays to be quick when you want to pick a pig up.

The general rule is to make no sudden movements, however in some cases you have to do quite the opposite.. just reach in and grab! The trick is to get their 2 front feet up off the ground, then they can't run or jump.

Just be gentle.

thank you! we are trying it now, I think that me being scared is what it is because we had a hamster before and she was mean she would bite the crap out of anyone, so now I am afraid that he will be the same. We just got him out I scooped him really fast before he even know what was happening and he didn't even try to get away! Now he is fine like walking around on the couch letting us pet him and everything. I feel silly now haha all these months we could have been doing this all along! :))

Train him to come into a shuttle - a cuddle cup, a padded shoebox with one end cut off and a little treat at the other end or pick him up with a towel.
This is what I used for my Llewelyn, who was similar difficult to handle at first:

In some respect, him biting you is actually a good sign - he has now got enough trust to stand up to you. It is very much a matter of patience and persistence to work past it, but it is worth it!
