Hello,

I need some help please!

Recently I contacted a rescue place to adopt a male guinea pig to potentially pair up with my teddy guinea pig, Raymond, as he had fallen out with his previous friend.

I had the rescue piggie on a bonding trail, it looked like things were going well for a day or so. Then I spotted them fighting and immediately split them up. Unfortunately the rescue Piggie had to go back as they didn’t get along. I bathed Raymond’s small cuts with cooled boiled salt water and he seemed to be healing well. He has been his usual self and hasn‘t lost his appetite.

This was three weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed there are still scabs on his back. Upon closer inspection one of the little scabs had come off and it looks almost like the wound is a small hole. There is lots of bits of flakey skin on his back and some of the fur is coming out and there is small bold patches around the scabs.

Does anyone know if this is normal when they heal. Or could he possibly have mites of some sort? I would take him to the vets but we are currently having to self isolate. I have attached a couple of pictures but the are not the best.

Any advice would be greatly received.

I can’t really tell from the photo. Vet is the only thing I can recommend when you can get him seen.

Hi!

Please have it vet checked. it is impossible for us to tell whether you are dealing with a wound, the start of skin parasites or a fungal skin infection.

Is it one of our own rescues or another one? since anybody can call themselves a rescue and/or a breeder (or any mix thereof) without licensing or welfare practice control, the standard can vary enormously.

When I first got my boys they had scabs and it turned out to be mites, however that being said it could be anything, better to go to a vet. I hope all goes well.
