Hi Everyone,

I found some scabs and a scratch on Benjamin's lower back tonight. We have been doing many (6 or so) trials with other pigs to find him a new friend, so I'm not sure if he could have gotten injured from that.

Would appreciate any advice and thoughts of what this is: Please note that they are only in the one place, with maybe a few scabs not pictured

Thank you!

In general, yes they could well have been caused in the process of introduction and bonding. It’s not uncommon for unintentional scratches to occur - a scratch while being mounted for example. It’s also not necessarily any cause for concern.

If there is any concern over them ie the potential for infection or whether they may be due to another cause then do see a vet.

If you have concerns that the bond between him and a current cagemate is in trouble then we can advise further with more background information provided.

Thank you. He is currently on his own because his friend passed away recently, so we've just been testing many different potential companions.

Do you think I should go to vet or just continue to monitor?
