Sandy has diarrhea. She just finished Baytril which she was on for a UTI. She was fine while on Baytril, but she has struggled to tolerate antibiotics in the past so as soon as we started the Baytril I started Benebac and some CC each day, just in case. Her weight has been fine the whole time, but her poos got really loose since yesterday. I dropped off a stool sample at the vet, but they don't have any openings to see her today. I've bumped up the CC to every few hours throughout the day. I'm spot cleaning the cage every 10 minutes. I had to clean her off this morning because there was poo on her feet and such. I'm just really worried about her. She has poos like cow pats now. I wish I knew what else to do for her.

Oh no poor Sandy. I hope with the extra CC they firm up soon. 🤞. I’m sure you are, but keep her off veggies too. Is she ok in herself? Hope the vet/sample sheds some light on what is going on. ❤️

Hi!

Please stop all veg; that should additionally help with firming up the poos and help the microbiome to settle down. A bit of 'poo soup' (i.e. live healthy microbiome transfer) from a healthy companion can also help with some tailor-made stuff for the gut. If done properly, it can be more effective than your average probiotic.

She seems ok in herself. Maybe a bit more quiet than usual so far today. I just had to wash her off again, poor thing. I'm trying to pick up poos as fast as she's dropping them, but she still managed to get some on her feet.

Will definitely try the poo soup. Thank you for the suggestion.

I really appreciate the support on this forum. We had a tragedy in my family this week so I'm already exhausted and emotionally drained. Sandy having issues now is just really bad timing, unfortunately. But it helps having the support on this forum so thank you again.

Sorry that you have had a family tragedy as well.
It’s so exhausting when everything happens at the same time.
Try and plan a bit of ‘me time’ - even if it’s just 10 minutes, to recoup some energy.
Hugs

I’m sorry you are having a rough time at the moment. Reach out to us if you need to. Take care ❤️

Sandy seems a tiny bit better this afternoon. She had poo soup and also has (on her own) eaten some of Penny's poos from their cage. She still has really soft poos, but they are gradually getting more formed and the diarrhea seems to be less frequent now so hopefully these are good signs.

Just seen your thread. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction for Sandy.
Sorry to hear you’re having a hard time this week x

Poo eating is the natural instinct of recovering piggies that our 'poo soup' mimics. It's basically inoculating the guts with healthy live microbiome. Just continue since the process of regrowing the digestive bacteria will take a few days but you are seeing what you want to see within the first 24 hours - a marked improvement that you are on the right track with your measures.

PS: Very sorry that it is all happening at once for you. Piggies are extremely good at that!

HUGS

Sandy is continuing to improve. I've been support feeding her CC throughout the day, offering Benebac, and poo soup. Her poos still aren't completely back to normal, but they are so much better. Didn't get the culture results back from the stool sample yet, but that may take a bit.

Sandy's poos are improving, but still aren't completely back to normal. I feel bad, but I was only able to feed her CC 3 times today. The past couple of days I was feeding her CC every couple hours during the day, but today I had to go back to work. I continued with Bene-bac and poo soup today. Still waiting on stool culture results.

That’s great her poops are returning to normal. Try not to don’t feel bad about less CC. You have to work. Maybe try leaving a bowl of CC in with her if you are working.

So glad Sandy is starting to feel a bit better. sending hugs to you at such a sad time, sorry I missed your post earlier

Sandy still has diarrhea. It's still better than the first day, but I feel so bad for her. I think it's going to get worse before it gets better because I have to work right now and can only feed her CC 2 or 3 times per day. She's still getting benebac twice per day and poo soup once per day. But that's about all I can do right now, unfortunately. The stool culture came back negative for any concerning bacteria so that's good. I guess it's just the antibiotics that threw her GI system for a loop and it will take a while to get her back on track. I just hope she doesn't get dehydrated in the meantime. I've been syringing her water with her CC and weighing her daily. So far, her weight is stable. Not sure what else to do right now.

Just keep doing what you are doing. Her weight is stable so she’s eating enough. 👍🏻. So stressful when piggies are poorly. 🤗
