Hi All,

Just a quetion about weight Sunshine is 18 weeks now (I calculated him two weeks older last week but since looking at the calander I realise he is 2 weeks younger than that!) Anyway I have just weighed him and he is 780g which is the same as last week. He hasn't gained but last week he did put on 80g in a week.

Is this ok? I'm really worried about him! I know it's probably nothing but with being new to this kind of thing I'm not sure what to expect.

Any advice?

Thanks

Louise

P.S Will post all the pigs weights on the sticky thread tomorrow as I've still got to do Cuzzy's!
:)

This ones tricky. It depends if he's changed in any other ways, like if he's off colour or not eating as much. If so, he could be ill and a vet visit is called for. If not, it could just be a harmlessm factor like he had just gone to the toilet or how much water he had recently drunk. Or it could be your scales (Kitchen scales aren't that reliable :)).

Good luck with him!

Thanks Rachey,

He is the same as always, popcorning for Hay and trying to escape from his box when I am weighing him, he is so lively! Must admit last week he ate a full tea then I weighed, tonight I weighed him before tea so may explain it! I'll keep an eye on him. I spoke to my dad who seemed to think because of the huge weight gain last week it was ok for him to stay the same.

Oh these boys are such a worry!

I know the feeling one minute I think Millies overweight and trixies underweight and the next I think Millies Underweight and Trixys overweight!

He sounds like a right cutie! My guinea pigs dont popcorn unless theyre in their run-does that mean theyre not happy in their cage? With this annoying weather they cant go in their run!

Hi, you're doing the right thing by weighing and keeping an eye on Sunshine (cute name :smitten:)
As long as he's drinking, eating hay and veggies and fruits there shouldn't be a problem.
I find one week the weigiht goes up and the next day Duke can loose 10-15 grams but he's eaten like a piggie, sooooo who knows :-\
If you're at all concerned and he's loosing weight, pop a thread on here and i'm sure you'll get some great advice pronto O0
Give Sunshine a little kiss on those cute ears from me and tell him to eat like a good piggie :) :)

Thanks Rachey and Glynis,

I'm less stressed about it now, Peter told me not to weigh him everyweek but I said its best to. We sometimes have a conflict of interest, he had guineas as a boy and did things differently but I guess years ago you didn't really think that much about things like weight!

I'll post some pics up tomorrow, Peter said he'll take some of the boys for me. I must admit Sunshine is a special pig, I love them all but he was my first and is a darling. Maybe not as cute looking as Twinkle or Cuzzy but he makes up for it in personality! :)

Thanks again you have reassured me! :)
