Hello, everyone!
So last night started having a terrible cold and this morning woke up to be sure I've got the flu.
I live in a shared house so I keep my piggies in my room.
They're about 2.5meters away from me and I keep the balcony open but I'm scared they might get it too.
They're 3 and 6 months.
Is it safe?

Hi!

I am very sorry. Please take a Covid PCR test to be on the safe side.

The hygiene advice for both cases is the same as they are passed on in the same way: Please stay away from your piggies as much as possible; don't cuddle and handle them and if necessary wait a bit longer with cleaning until you are better unless another family member can look after them in their room for the time being.

The transmission risk with small rodents is classed as very low in both cases but any pet can pick up virus fragments in their coat. If in any doubt, please ask another provider to wear disposable gloves and a mask when coming into your room to look after your piggies or to take and bring back the cage for cleaning in order to minimise the human to human infection risk.

Wishing you a good and quick recovery!

Thank you so much!

Thanks for your answer!
I did take a test and I'm covid negative.
I did sanitise my hands before feeding them this morning, but the mask is a good shout!
So far I can only keep them in my room :(
Cleaned them 2 days ago so it should be fine for a few days.
Thanks again!

If you have tested negative, you do not have to wear a mask. Just washing your hands thoroughly before and after any interaction will be enough. Just keep any interaction as hands-off as possible until you are over the acute stage and refrain from any cuddling and kissing etc. until you are over it. Guinea pigs, like all rodents have a very low risk of catching a respiratory virus from humans. ;)
