hiya everyone,
wondering if anyone can help me?
I've had my babies now a few months and they still facinate me.lol
They both love most veg and some fruit besides the guniea pig food and hay.A friend asked me if they eat any ceareal such as weetabix or shredded wheat, this got me wondering so i thought i'd ask on here. please excuse the spelling?
The other thing is they are both girls and when they are running around the house the larger one (bubble) squeaks really loud if she loses sight of the little one(squeak).
Also when they are having cwtches they seem to chatter and purr loud when i scratch above their back leg.
I would be grateful for some feedback.
thank you
Hayley

I only feed weetabix as an extra fibre item - if one of my girls has loose stools. So it's a hardly ever thing in their diet.

Noises - you can usually tell if a piggie likes something, they make those wheeky/whiny/squeaky noises as if they're telling you a story. If they don't like it then the noises get louder and lower, very pointed sort of 'get off' sounds. So just cuddle and stroke for a while, then move your strokes around the piggie and listen to the noises. Some don't mind bottoms being stroked, some hate it, ditto for tummies, under the chin etc. You just have to get to know your piggies!

Cereals should not be part of a regular diet.

Porridge oats are fattening and only good when a piggy last lost a lot of weight and needs to gain some urgently.

Extra fibre shouldn't be necessary with a well balanced diet.

You also have to consider the salt content if weetabix and similar are fed regularly!

My four girls have had one weetabix between them in the last six months or so - that's not often! (My visitors tend to eat weetabix for breakfast, it's not kept solely for piggy use.)

I do completely agree with vickyt, piggies should gain enough fibre from their diet and should not need cereals as a regular food at all. The salt content of weetabix was not something I had previously considered....good comment. I shall reserve weetbix for visitors only in future.
