Hi, After using fleece for a couple of years I have now decided to try something new after numerous breakdowns with my washing machine, the hay stuck to the fleece and was causing blockages (I do shake the fleece first but its impossible to get it all off). Anyway back to my question I have started using a towel, then newspapers then some carefresh so I dont get hay everywhere. Only problem both my boys like to nibble it, would this do them any harm or is it ok. ?/

Most Newspapers now use safe ink, generally if the print comes off on your hand then I wouldn't use it in a piggy's cage. Carefresh is supposed to be safe for them, mine would try the odd nibble but usually left it after a while.

I would also not use the coloured pages from magazines etc as I don't know how safe they are.

Thank you to everyone for replying so quickly. I'm so glad newspapers is ok as it seems to be a favourite past time at the moment. :))

Just a suggestion if you were you consider going back to the fleece you could get a washing/laundry bag that you can put in the washing machine (with the fleece inside of course) to contain any stray bits of hay.
