My kooky is not very mobile anymore. So poop builds up around her bum and instead of putting her through the stress of a daily bum bathe, are there any guinea pig safe baby wipes out there so I can keep her area clean? I sweep the poo (which is mushy right now due to antibiotics) out from under her ever hour almost but I'm worried about her getting another infection from sitting in it.

My Sandy has bad arthritis so we have similar issues with needing lots of bum baths. I try to make it easier on her by just using water (instead of soap as well). For minor issues I just get a paper towel dampened with hand warm water and clean her that way. Hope this helps.

The best thing we’ve found is the Simply Gentle Organic cotton baby cleansing pads with warm water. They’re a good size and very gentle.

Great idea! And yes I haven't ever used any sort of shampoo on her. The only time I used shampoo it was Miconazole shampoo for my boar's very matted grease gland and it was just one time because I found it easier to just trim the area and used coconut oil to break up the grease.

The paper towel idea might just be a godsend. The probiotics haven't kicked in so her poos are super mushy. Poor baby.

Sorry to hear she's not well. Can I ask what you're doing to treat the soft poos?

If you go to my other thread under illnesses (8 year old piggy with a tumor is now peeing blood.) it's allllll in there.
Ok, gotcha. Just wanted to make sure you knew what to do to treat it. It's so hard when piggies are ill. Hugs

Thank you. She was very iffy there for a bit but she seems to be improving now. I want to try to get her moving again but it's hard because her back legs have bad arthritis and she cries because she is also very gassy and in pain. Been trying the vibrating pillow method but it doesn't seem to be helping much...I bought some gripe water that should be here in a couple days though so hopefully that helps. The Simethicone the vet recommended doesn't seem to be working.

Hi again. Can't remember if I mentioned in your other thread (relevance etc) but George has twice daily metacam for his arthritis and recently we've seen great improvements adding Oxbow joint support lozenges into his diet. He crunches one a day. It took 2 weeks for me to see any improvement but after 4 weeks he's much more mobile. They are pretty hard though... you might have to break them up a bit for an old lady if you're going to try them!

@Wiebke is simethicone the stuff that disperses gas into little bubbles or the one that makes it gather together in bigger bubbles causing difficulty?

It makes it gather more but it is still better than nothing if that is all you get from your vet.

Thanks! I bought the joint support and also some vita C, Digestive support and urinary support for her. I know it's a lot but I think at her age she may very well need it all. I will not give it all in one day though I'll make a schedule so it's one different tablet per day...monday urinary, tuesday joints, wed digestive and so on

Please read the labels - both the joint and the urinary tract support will contain glucosamine; and the digective tract support may also contain vitamin C. Don't throw the kitchen sink at her without checking what you are throwing at her. It is better to concentrate on one area like arthritis instead of a little that doesn't do enough for everything.

Gotcha. What does Glucosamine do?

Gotcha. What does Glucosamine do?

Glucosamine acts as a layer of insulation. Glucosamine-based medication usually works for both issues. Strong arthtritis medication can for example now also be prescribed for persistent/chronis strong urinary tract problem where normal meds don't work.

What is does exactly:
- It naturally coats the walls of the urinary tract in order to prevent the very corrosive urine from coming in direct contact with raw tissue; which is why stones and infections are so painful if you ever had a bladder/urine infection yourself.
- It also coats the bones in the joints where they have worn down and are grating against each other directly (the pain in arthritis.

I see. Thank you for that. So it's a good thing I should look out for in vitamins for her.
