Hi, we are new to this forum and want some advice about or youngest cavy.

Her name is Kasa and she is 2 years old. She has always been active and cheeky and brings our 4 year old cavy, Gladys ( quite a moody old dear) to life with her energy.

Lately she has been very lethargic. When she gets her daily run (for an hour) she often hides under the couch and stays there. Before she would be racing Gladys in laps! She is very still and often looks scared. Nothing has changed in our household and we are very worried about her, any advice would help!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum :)

Thats a tricky one, is she eating and drinking okay?
It's a bit of a long shot but is her eye sight ok, sometimes animals can start behaving differently if they vision becomes impared.

Hi, Thanks for your quick reply. She is eating and drinking fine. Its hard to say about her eye sight. We havent noticed anything unusual about her sight but she has always had kind of droopy eyes (you can see the white flesh below her eyes often).

Its a tricky one :-\ Ours go through mood swings sometimes, maybe she just wants some one on one attention, cuddles and parsley bribes usually work in this house. It might cheere her up a little. :)
If you have the room maybe she'd like a new younger friend, of her own age.

Hi Loosie,

Wee Kasa has company in four-year-old Gladys, who until recently was always chasing her or playing piggy-trail.

Thanks anyway, maybe she will come out of it on her own, we will keep a close eye on her.

i know :) , i thought another friend might perk them up. other people may have more advice, i just didn't want to leave your post unanswered

GP's are very good at hiding illnesses. She wouldnt change from being lively to lethargic for no reason. Give her a thorough health check from her eyes and ears to her toes! Look for any lumps, bumps, sores, lice etc etc Listen to her chest for any wheezing, check her wee for any blood. Double check she is eating and Gladys isnt eating it and you may just think Kasa is eating ok.
It may be worth having her checked at a good GP savvy vet, especially her teeth-molars in particular.

i would suggest a sudden change like this needs a vet visit to have her throughly checked over. guinea pigs are prey animals so if out in the wild they have to hide their illnesses otherwise the other guinea pigs of the herd would attack and kill the sick piggy to protect the herd. which is why are piggies hide their illnesses so well. i would definately go to the vets a piggy savy vet. O0 welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: if you haven't a piggy savy vet perhaps mention where you are and someone may know of a good vet for you. or at the top of health and illness there is a post recomended vets you might want to have a look in there. O0 good luck, welcome, have fun, learn heaps and make lost of friends, and hugs to kasa :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi welcome to the forum :) I agree with the others that a vet trip would put your mind to rest and check her over to make sure she isn't hiding anything :smitten:
