I just got back from a trip. My family was taking care of my guinea pigs. Sadly they got sick, and three of them passed suddenly right when I was on my way back home. I was told the other two were doing fine but I immediatley noticed that one of my pigs, Turtle, was laying on her side with her eyes squinted and runny. There is also a kind of clicking noise when she breathes and it sounds like she's congested. I know she needs to go to the vet and I'm trying to get her an appointment. It seems like a UTI to me but I just wanted to post this to see if anyone has any advice on what else it could be or what to do before I can get her into the vet. Thank you in advance

Oops I meant URI not Uti... I always get them mixed up. I just tried giving her some lettuce and she wont eat it, even if I put it right up against her lips.

I had her out on the floor and she moved a little bit but mostly just lay down, even if it was right out in the open. She's laying in her cage now and I'm going to be keeping a very close eye on her but I was told she had stayed in the same spot for hours before I got home. Thank you so much, the others will be missed very much. I definitely won't be having the same people take care of my pets next time I'm gone, because it's obvious they weren't even remotely well cared for.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

How soon can you get her to a vet? I know it’s harder in the US. This does sound like she needs to be seen asap particularly given the loss of the other piggies.

Please switch from the normal weekly weight checks and instead weigh her daily. This will help you monitor hay intake. Has she lost any weight since before you left (I’m assuming the people you left her with didn’t weigh her)?
Ensure you step in and syringe feed her to support her.

I hope she is ok

I really hope you can get her to the vets soon. She sounds quite poorly. 😢

I’m so sorry you have lost your other piggies.

Turtle didn't make it through the night. My last pig doesn't seem sick but I'll be keeping an extremely close eye on her for a wile. I'll also see if I can get her to a vet to make sure she doesn't have what killed the others. Thank you everyone for your support, this was all very sudden and I definitely did not expect to go from 5 piggies to 1 in just a day.

I’m so sorry. I’d definitely get your remaining piggy seen by a vet. Good luck.
