Hi
About a month ago one of my guineas got a RI and we treated him for a week until he got better. Now, a month later, it seems he's a bit sniffly again. Him and the other guinea that's in the cage with him. I've booked an appointment for them tommorow morning and am going to see how they are later (as at the moment they aren't nearly as snotty as the last time).

Do you know if anything can be causing this to happen a month later? They have vetbed in their cage, and shredded card, which seems the most dust free bedding I've had so far.
Thanks

Oh dam, this is so sad love :'(
I hope the littlies get better real soon, keep us posted O0 :smitten: :smitten:
all paws crossed and heaps of healing wheeeeeeeeeks being sent for them both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

URIs can hang around if not aggressively treated the first time around. How long was the guinea on anti biotics for?

TOnight they don't seem to have got any worse. Still a little sniffly but nothing major. One has a bit of moisture around his nose. They are both eating OK and seem full of energy.

I have an appointment booked for them in the morning. Do you think it's still worth taking them or should I wait til Monday? I know it's important to get them treated but unfortunately money is an issue for me at the moment.

Any thoughts? Thanks a lot

i would get them to a vet asap, as they can go down hill fast but you know your piggies so they might be alright till monday but i would keep a close eye on them O0 perhaps you could arrange to pay bit by bit of at you vet if you go tomorrow? sending hugs and healing vibes your way :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Both have been to the Vets and they were very good and charged us for only one pig. Back on Baytril now (which is always an effort to feed to one of them). Hopefully they'll get better soon!

Another question - they have card bedding and one of them often eats big bits - is this safe?

i am not sure on the cardboard bedding, i know some carboard doesn't hurt but not sure about a lot. hoping someone can help you there, perhaps look in the housing section where they discuss cages, bedding etc they might be able to help you. O0 so glad things went well at the vets, don't ask me why but there is a fellow oz memeber who has tasted baytril and she said it is horrible stuff :P :P :P perhaps dip the syringe in baby food like apple and then squirt the medicine into the mouth. wishing you luck O0 sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: keep us posted O0

I'm not sure about them eating the cardboard, but mine have cardboard houses and tubes that they chew ::)

Hope they're feeling better soon O0

We had him on it for about 8 days I think
Yeah 8 days would be fine if it was a minor URI, but sometimes they are more advanced than we realise. Woodstock caught a URI and by the 2nd day I had him down the vets, hence he was only Baytril for 7 days, it cleared up and no further problems (touch wood), if it had been advanced he might've been on anti biotics for a lot longer.
Sounds like you did the right thing getting them to the vet. O0
