I have decided to deffinately get a square run now, I will sell on the triangle wooden run but keep the wire one as it will be part of their indoor house as well as a back up run.

I am thinking that wooden runs will be best and a minimum of 5'x4', but the most important thing is that I have a large door to get them out from as they really like it in there and are not willing volunteers when I need to get them out.

So suggestions for runs please, its payday tomorrow so I can order one.

I've bought 2'x3' wire panels from screwfix. £25 For 10. going to cable tie them to make a circle 30' in circumference.

but not good for me as I have about 20 resident neighbouring cats, a fox somewhere, muderous magpies and a dog that would simply love to play with the piggies (and wont get the chance). I have a lovely puppy pen that I could attach to the wire triangle run but I cant risk letting them have an uncovered run as seagulls, pigeons, crows and other very guniea pig unfriendly birds are about.

It has to absolutely be preditor proof and fairly heavy, although I do weight or pin it down to be extra safe. I dont leave them in there if I am at work or not around the house, but I equally dont sit out in the garden while they are in it but I do check regularly on them in the run, scare away the cats that have congrigated and keep my dog inside.

I have this one from zooplus, its fabulous its a folding run so great for strorage. the roof is large enough to step into the run itself, and i just love it!

Its also available in a larger size:

:)

thank you but sadly that is 3.9' x 3.6' (both the same measurements just round a different way) too small for 4 piggies :0

run

yes it's defianately going to be a supervised run, maybe some netting over the top. otherwise they have the smaller wooden framed one with a proper hinged lid, but we are quite looking forward to seeing them have loads of space to run around in. also they do tend to eat the grass down to it's roots in about 10 minutes in the smaller run.

I am sure you guys will love the extra space, netting is not sufficient preditor proofing in my case sadly else I would have more options available.

They are currently using two runs put together, it makes 9' x 2.5' space and it takes 4 two days to eat the grass down enough that I have to move it to fresh pasture. I wanted to halve the length and double (at least) the width so they have a bot more room than a long run really, plus the triangle shape I have is great, but those murdeous magpies are attacking my piggies to I wanted to get rid of the slope that created a avenue for their beaks to get at my guys.

any good at carpentry?
if so make your own, 2' x 3' panels will make a 6 x 3 run quite nicely, if you make the the lid as one piece and hinged it will be soo easy to catch them, we had ours on the grass last night in the new grids I got for a C&C cage and not having a lid was a real bonus when it was time to put them way.

if you want bigger than 6x3 6x6 is achievable with a few more panels, though you probably want to reinforce the centre and maybe make it as two sections to help you move it around.

sadly I have problems now making things due to a perminant wrist problem, the OH is useless at making things, shame really as I inherited my dads knack for making things from scratch. Like with car maintenace like breaks, runs for safety I think is best left to the proffessionals so it can be more secure and trustworthy than anything i botch up :red:))

got the panels from screwfix yesterday. Not as sturdy as i hoped:( . So I will need to strengthen them with some battens. however the pigs did enjoy the extra space

I like the flexibility this will give me over a fixed box shape run. We won't need a strimmer around the lawn edges anymore :(|)
Need to get smaller bats for the swingball too.

I have ordered my run, they will have a little more space than they have at the moment and I have full axcess through the top - but I am sure cats will now sit on top rolleyes - but then as long as they keep the muderous magpie away its a small price to pay.

I did have a panic about thinking I was getting one too small, kept forgetting I am going for square footage than length and width, not the overall length. I even took some bamboo sticks and set the size out on the lawn to see what it will look like, they are going to love having more room sideways now instead of lengthways.

Just cant wait for it to arrive now :p
