HI ALL

I'm just new to guinea pigs..i got a rescue female about a mouth ago think shes about 1year old..then got another female baby last week.
since then the older female has been well it's like a rumble sound for the past 3 days now . what does this mean is she protecting her new friend.:)

Hi :) The rumbling sound is more likely to be a dominance issue. In other words, the older guinea pig showing the younger guinea pig that she is the boss. It is perfectly normal and unless there is a lot of teeth chattering, bum strutting and any fights break out, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on things and let them sort it out xx

Hi Rodger,

Claire has summed it up well. With them being new to each other, dominance is most likely to be the reason for the rumbling.

Some sows do rumble a lot when they are in season, though not all and it would only last 1-2 days if this was the case.

The rumbling when combined with a low swagger is known as rumblestrutting - perfect name if you ask me!

Hi nicky. Its just as clare and laura have said above. Carly is just telling georgina that she is in charge. All is normal and judging by the pics you sent me they are getting on very well. Love helen x x x
