I have two female guinea pigs together in quite a large homebuilt wooden cage. They have been with us since May this year, they are both around 6-7 months old. The younger one (texel) is the dominant one. The older one is more moody and chatty (abyssinian). My texel has been rumblestrutting for 3 or 4 days now which at first it was normal as I felt she was in heat. But now my other rumble struts back at her. The texel chases my abyssinian and then nips the other in the bum. A few minutes earlier she was minding her own business when my abyssinian went up to her, the texel right away jumped at her wanting to nip or bite.

They have not been the bestest of friends but they weren't like this. We were thinking of why this may be. Yesterday our male (also a texel) got neutered and he was in a smaller cage right next to the girls. But I was so worried about him, I put him in my room so I could keep an eye on him. Could that be why? And recently I have payed more attention to my lonely boar and I thought the other two would be ok with that; I used to always take my texel sow out for cuddles but I've been paying too much atyemtion to my boar? Or maybe recently my sow texel, when I've taken her out, every minute I would hear her put her teeth together, not grinding or teeth chattering but one sound like when you close your mouth. I would really appreciate some advice. I usually just lurk on this forum but I can't find an answer to this.

Rumblestrutting is a normal dominance behaviour, and your sows are teenagers so it could just be a strong season and she’s feeling hormonal.

you say the sows haven’t been best friends - what do you mean by this? Is there tension in their relationship Other than normal dominance behaviours?

They sometimes chase and the abyssinian pees on the texel. It seems apparently normal but still a little frightening. They are currently rumblestrutting and my dominant texel sow humped my abyssinian for the first time ever.

How long would this teen hormone thing last?

chasing is normal. Peeing on the other is the guinea pig way of telling the other piggy to go away.
Humping is also an entirely normal behaviour for the dominant piggy to Do.
they are in their teens until 14 months of age but sows have seasons throughout their entire lives so you will see this type of behaviour all the time

Thank you, so so much.
