I'm sure I read that someone had used some kind of rubber matting on their ramp and I was wondering where they had got it from.

I used to have carpet on my winding staircase/ramp but they peed on it so much I had to rip it all off. Then I stuck cut down beach matting there which is proving a nightmare as it's all fraying and the poo gets underneath etc.

I could use plywood with notches but I want something easy to clean down but easy on their feet and rubber sounds like it might do - but I need something easy to cut up, not too thick.

Anyone used anything similar?

Cheers

On my ramp I use vetbed with some non slip stuff from IKEA underneath. The vetbed I just wash with the rest of the stuff and should the non slip stuff get iffy it can just get rinsed off. They like the vetbed as it gives a much better grip than fleece would.

rubber might be very tempting for them if they are chewers....

Don't really want anything I have to keep taking off and washing - for that reason, I'm planning to give up with the vetbed I have in their shed and go back to newspaper and hay.

Just want a surface that I can easily scoop the mess off and wipe down. Because their shed ramp is a graduated thing that winds it's way up to the 2nd level, it has landings and they must enjoy sitting there doing what comes natually!

The ramp in my girls' hutch isn't lined at all. We did add extra wooden 'steps' as I felt the gaps between them were too wide for piggy feet.

They have no problem zooming up and down though :)

I put roofing felt onto my ramps, with 'steps' stapled over the top. The steps hold the roofing felt down nicely.

The piggies have been in the run for a week and there is no sign of any chewing of the roofing felt. Two of the piggies are only 4 weeks old and as far as I know hadn't used ramps before, both of these started running up and down the ramps within minutes, as did the older one. They seem to have had no problems at all.

I think the combination of felt, which offers good grip, and the rungs works well. Mess brushes off pretty easily too.

we put wooden sides onto the ramp so they couldnt see over the edge and our once very nervous humbug has just today started going up and down and up and down and up and down ...... lol think he is so made up he can access the run at any point !

Thanks for all suggestions!

Do you know, David, I just threw out a load of roofing felt last week that I'd kept from when the sheds were erected! Wondered if it might be too rough on their feet, though?

Check out pic below my post.

This is the stairway/ramp when it was carpeted. You can see it's well protected as it winds round the edge of the walls of the shed and the barrier on the upper tier is much higher now. But - they tend to gossip on the landings and poo/wee as they do so, I think. Shame because they tore up and down the carpet which was ribbed.

I can't just leave the bare ply as there may be the odd bit of nail head sticking up from when the ply was originally hammered down. Also there are small gaps that need covering over. Lino too slippery, I think.

Been looking on Ebay for rubber sheeting (it's sooo expensive!) and found this which may work if I cut it up. Have asked for a sample.

P.S. David, is it poss to have a closer look at how you've done your ramp? How thick and wide are the strips of wood you've put across? Your run looks great!

Thanks:)
