I have a baby sow guinea pig and she’s smaller than the rest of the babies and whenever she’s still and breathing she’s always rocking back and fourth and her breathing is always so obvious through her chest I don’t really know how to explain it

Any breathing issues need to be checked out by a vet without delay given how quickly potential issues can deteriorate

As above you should take her to the vet if you’re worried. There wouldn’t be any harm in taking them all for a general check.

Thank you! She’s been gaining weight perfectly fine even though she’s still so tiny! Is it normal for a 1month guinea pig to look about 2weeks old?

They come in all shapes and sizes. What’s right for her isn’t necessarily right for another piggy. Use her heft and weight as a guide. It’s no use comparing her to another. Just like it would be useless to compare two humans. Different genetics and body structures.

Is she the one you were taking to the vet few weeks back? What did they say then?
Definitely take her to the vet.

Rocking when breathing is a serious symptom.

She needs to see a vet and have her heart and lungs checked. Her slowere growth rate could be pointing to underlying genetic problems; the correct medication may help to enhance her quality of life and prolong her life span.

Cavy Central Guinea Pig Rescue (ACS Sydney) should be able to give you recommendations as to a piggy savvy vet in your city if you ask them.

They didn’t notice it I don’t think. They said she was perfectly healthy and didn’t need to be hand fed. Her rocking has become more noticeable throughout the day.

You can videotape her rocking to show the vet in case she doesn't do it for the vet to see. If she's much smaller than the other pigs and has this abnormal breathing, she definitely needs a vet check ASAP!

:agr: Recording it is a good idea. I’d get her to the vet within 24 hours though particularly as it seems to be getting worse. This kind of thing is not something I’d leave unchecked for any longer than it already has been

Have you booked an appointment?
Yes I have for tomorrow. I’m not sure if my vet is fantastic since they aren’t specialised in guinea pigs and more in dogs and cats. They seem to lack the knowledge since they said 2 boars can’t be put together.

You need to find an experienced vet. I believe it was mentioned above - how you can get contact for one.
