It is with great sadness that I have to announce that my beloved baby girl Peri has passed away at the tender age of 7. Her passing was so sudden tonight as she did not display any signs of Illness.

She suffered from gas after eating veggies but is usually released after some tummy massages. However, this was not possible tonight. She was hiding under her blanket for most of the day and I gave her some veggies this evening and should have checked on her instead of leaving her for a couple of hours. I heard a discomfort noise coming from her and saw that her belly was really bloated. I tried our usual trick but she looked really uncomfortable, I gave her a bit of gripe water but she took a couple of sips and wasn't interested. I massaged her belly more vigorously and heard and felt a lot of movent going on.

I put her back in the cage and tried to entice her with a treat and she was none responsive. I took her to an emergency vet where she was put on oxygen. They said she wasn't responding well and stated they ran checks on her and said they suspect she had a uterus infection as she was discharging. I've never seen any discharge! Soon after they advised her heart stopped and my heart broken into pieces.

I should have checked on her more today! I'm so angry with myself. I now have a widowed piggy who's gone quiet for a change, luckily she's eating but in shock I think.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Please don't blame yourself, 7 is a good age for a guinea pig and I really don't think that it would have mattered if you spotted things earlier. Elderly pigs, when they decide it's their time to go, seem to go in a hurry no matter what you do. Big ((HUGS)) coming your way and be gentle to yourself as you grieve!

I’m so sorry you lost Peri. Her reaching 7 is a testament to all your years of love and care for her. The bridge was calling and it was her time to go. Take care ❤️

I‘m so sorry that you lost Peri, what a lovely little lady sending big hugs x

Sleep tight Peri, popcorn high 🌈

I think Daisy is taking it hard. She's barely moved from under the blanket. I keep picking her up every hour or so to check on her and give her hugs. She's purring with her back rubs and is eating but the spark has gone 😩

I’m sorry Peri has travelled to RB - she was living her best life with you and your family and Daisy.
She was an amazing age and despite everything that had worked before, it was her time to leave you all.
Don’t feel guilty ….we all know how guinea pigs hide things and sometimes with all the best efforts it isn’t enough.
Look after yourselves as you grieve and try to remember the lovely memories you have ❤️
