While Dr Jekyll has gained a considerable amount of weight on the paste he got given from the vet in case he had a gut problem, his appetite is lower than ever...
I am seriously thinking it is infact a dental issue maybe mixed with a gut problem to explain the very soft poo he's had since before the paste....

The thing is I quote a quote of £140 at the vet we currently use for a dental... :...
I'll call it VETS A as i don't know if it's against the rules to name vets when I'm sort of complaining about them...

My friend suggested a different vet nearby I'll call it VET B that recently did her rabbits dental as she had spurs on her teeth and they quoted £40!

While it makes sense financially to go to the cheaper VET B, would it be better for the pig to stay with his current practise for the op?

we paid 25 for his check up and the paste we came away with at VET A
BUT if we had to pay another 25 for a check up at VET B and then £40 for the dental at VET B, the two check ups and the dental comes to £90 which is still £50! cheaper then the quote at VET A....

What do you guys think?

[*]FORGOT TO MENTION AND LEFT IT TOO LONG TO EDIT FIRST POST::[/*]
He still had crusty eyes :( and his poops are still soft.....

the paste he is on is called
fibreplex - a probiotic and prebiotic supplement to encourage normal digestive function containing extra dietary fibre

Unless vet A has any special knowledge on rodent's then i would go with the cheaper one you can alway's phone them first and explain about vet A,they may give you a discount:))

I think you would be better off to phone your local GP rescue and ask which vet they recommend for piggie dentals - it would probably work out better value no matter what the initial charge is as you'll have a competent vet and less likelihood off complications after the surgery.

Struck gold at the dentist

I have struck gold my friend passed me onto a Rodentologist who does free Guinea pig dental checks and treatment in Derby.I took my sow over two days ago ! Thats something worth enquiring around about.
It was interesting to watch, she only took several minutes clipped couple teeth and i was on my way.I do love my vet but they charge over £ 70 as they do under GA.

ring Cambridge Cavy Trust and ask vedra where your localist rodentoligist is?

they can do dentals with out the need of a GA and at a fraction of the cost and has helen said we have both been lucky to find 2 near to us that doesnt charge.
