I have been blessed that Carys has lived to celebrate her 6th adoption anniversary in September despite her arthritis and her increasing kidney failure. The lure of the Rainbow Bridge sadly became too strong last week when she made her journey right in the thickest and thorniest part of our big forum revamp, so I had to do that on not a lot of sleep and by compartmentalising really hard. That is why I have taken a bit longer than normal to post about a loss.
It has all come back up earlier this week, and since Carys has touched the lives of so many Tribe piggies - many of them part of my massive wodge of 22 losses in 24 months between August 2021 and August 2023 - a lot of the not yet fully digestd bits have come up again, too, as I lost the capacity to process for a while during that time.

Carys 'Love' was the cutest rescue-born baby who I was amazed to hear that she was the only one in her family (back-to-back litters due to a mis-sexed pair) who had not had any enquiries because of her dark ruby eyes and long hair. I'd never expected to actually get to adopt her. Lucky me! ❤️

At the time, I was specifically looking for a baby who would not be able to challenge 7 1/2 years old Ffwlbri 'Moonshine' (the last First Lady of the big Tribe group) but who would see out nearly 3 years old gentle Gethin 'Dusky', Ffwlbri's sister Tesni's 'Sun-warmed' much loved young 'toyboar'. Delightful Carys did in fact give Ffwlbri enough renewed zest of life to go on for nearly another year and to become Gethin's second big love of his life. The two of them shared a gentle outlook on life combined with a capacity for loving deeply and getting on with anypig and they were very attached to each other.

In 2020 around the pandemic lockdowns I adopted Tegeirian 'Orchid' from Merrypigs as a new friend for Carys and Gethin, who was coming up to 5 years by then. Rhian turned out to be a bit of a crackpot and the rumbliest sow I have ever had but nevertheless, the two sows gelled and became best of friends; Carys giving Rhian the emotional grounding that she needed.

After Gethin died rather suddenly in October 2021 Rhian took a shine to 4 years old Cai (Kylo) - unfortunately, Cai only was around for one year.

Carys and Tegeirian then bonded with also twice widowed Tudur 'Tribe Leader' and timid Heilin 'Generous' in an older ladies' group. Sadly, Tegeirian had to be pts in May 2023, aged 3 due to a large inoperable internal growth and then she lost Tudur at a similar age at the start of this year due to a fast growing tumour in the thyroid area.

Carys and Heilin moved in with Brangwyn 'White Raven', Beti (Betty) and Begw (Peggy, 'Little Pearl') in an older ladies group. Through it all Carys bonded closely with her age mates Heilin and Begw; it was heart-warming to see how the three by now old ladies were caring about and comforting each other.

My last picture of Carys a few days before her passing. Her lilac had pretty much faded

I am still missing my well-named Carys who was love pigsonified; she was such a caring and giving girl, a great social enabler and 'group glue' and as beautiful inside as she was stunning outside. She is one of the piggies I have been blessed to see grow up from a little baby and live to a good age; that creates a deeper bond. I am so grateful that I had Carys for 6 years in my life. She was one of my specially little stars to give me love and comfort during some dark times.

Carys striking a diva pose. I let her hair grow out once for a glam shot.

I buried Carys in the latest big piggy planter with the last summer blooms hanging on in the autumn garden somewhere between Grooming Care and the new Sexing Corner (timewise) although my memory is somewhat hazy. She lies next to her friend Heilin.

Omg Wiebke! I'm so sorry, she looked so sweet, she was so lucky to have you as a slave and you were lucky to have had her.
sending you lots of hugs!

Sending hugs, she was just gorgeous! Look at that beautiful hair, a totally fabulous piggy! I’m sure she has gone over the bridge of rainbows in style ❤️ x

She had a comparatively gentle passing, as these things go. Tiny Begw, who is turning 6 years old herself sometime this month and who I don't think is going to make it for very much longer, has taken her leave of Carys when I laid her out outside the cave Carys chose to hole up in for her last couple of days. She looked very peaceful.

I'm sorry you lost your gorgeous little "love", she has plenty of friends to reunite with over the rainbow bridge ❤️ 🌈

I was so saddened to hear that your sweet Carys has crossed the rainbow bridge 😞 She lived a lovely life with you and her many friends and I for one will miss having a cuddle with her when we come and visit 😞 (((hugs))))

Sleep tight beautiful Carys. You will be missed xx

What a beautiful tribute. I’m so sorry that your lovely girl has joined her friends at the Rainbow Bridge. Every now & then you get the honour to welcome a piggy into your herd who’s so gentle and caring and holds the group together. Your beautiful “Love” lived up to her name. What a great age - but I know it’s never long enough. Big hugs xx

What a beautiful tribute for a lovely and loving piggy.
I am so sorry to hear Carys lost her battle against kidney failure Wiebke, sending you my very best wishes at such a sad time.
