Hi all! This is going to be a somewhat long post so I apologize in advance.

So a few months ago, I found two Guinea pigs in a box. Took them home, took them to the vet, etc. A few weeks after that, one started showing signs of possible Ringworm so I took him to the vet and got a test done. It came back positive and we were prescribed a few medications for it.

Two and a half months after that and not a single one of the medicines the Vet gave had been working. It continued spreading to other spots on his body. I kept bringing up the fact that not one of the creams were working and they kept ignoring me. So, I bought a shampoo that I bathed him in once a week for around 2-3 weeks that seemed to help and cleared the Ringworm up as there were no more open wounds or any dry skin that I could see of on him, & placed his friend back with him (who has no signs of Ringworm) and now I’ve checked him over again & he’s got Ringworm down his nose & on his paw. I’ve cleaned the cage & huts in F10 solution during the entire duration of this, cleaned his bowls & water bottles in dish soap during the entire duration of this. I still am.

Is there something I am doing wrong or is it just this hard to get rid of Ringworm in Guinea Pigs? Is there anything I could use other than the medicine the vet prescribes? I’ve heard some people use medicated athletes foot cream but I’m pretty nervous about putting it on his face.

Just so everyone knows as well, I have once again separated him & his cage mate.

Thank you so much in advance.

I’m sorry to hear this.

As you have found, creams are not effective. For that reason we would not recommend you use athletes foot creams.

What shampoo did you use?
Shampoos and dips can be used if you cannot get the recommended oral treatment (introfungol).

To be honest, separating him from his cage mate at this point may not be of benefit. There is 10-14 days between infection and symptoms so the other piggy may already be in the period to catch it given symptoms have shown. They probably both need treating.

This is the guide which details further

I’ve attached a photo of the shampoo. It was recommended by a Guinea Pig rescue online.

I was contemplating perhaps taking him to a different vet. However, the other Vet refuses to see him for two weeks as they’re booked up and not considering this to be a big emergency.

Thank you very much for your reply as well!
