I was shocked this morning to find that Rikkyboy, my 4 and half year old Coronet, has a big lump or mass under his chin. It obviously hurt him when I was having a gentle feel of it. He has either been keeping it well under disguise amongst all his hair, or it has grown big very quickly!

I thought he had been a little quieter lately, but he has been eating well and acting normally. I will check him over when I get home from work just in case I panicked and imagined he had something other than a fat, double chin.

But I am worried and have booked an appointment at the vet for this evening. I am guessing that it might be an abscess .... just keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't a tumour! :'(

oh no! fingers crossed that it is nothing serious! keep us posted and wishing you all the best! got my fingers crossed! :smitten:

Oh love all our very very best for the sweet little guy Rikky :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Paws crossed if it's an abscess it can be lanced easily and then you'll just have to do meds and flushing.... not much fun but it's manageable.
Just ask on here lots of wonderful people to help you, a number of us have been thru this rotten abscesses >:( :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
For Rikky :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Back from the vets now .... Rikkyboy has a thickened area all under his chin (it hangs down similiar to one of those rabbits chins) but within that area are several glands or tumours. It is not an abscess as it is not painful to him.

He has been given antibiotics which the vet didn't think would make any difference, but it was worth a try as there could be something going on, that if it is glands, have made them enlarge.
It is just a matter of seeing how much he is eating, how happy he seems as apparently operating would not be an option.
He is out in the run now and seems happy.

Thanks for all your good wishes ... only time will tell, I guess :(

Good luck little fella x :smitten: :smitten:

Our little Alice had a big lump on the side of her face a while back, the vet was talking about possible op and took a sample to have a biopsy and all sorts :'( But within a few weeks it went down on its own! not been back since either, touch wood. Hope something similar happens for your little sunshine xx :)
