My littlest pig, Rey, is off to the vets tomorrow morning at 9am (her sisters will be along for the ride). I got home from work to find her right eye a bit not right. She's a wiggly wee thing but I think it's some bedding/hay dust that's got caught in her lower eye rim/lid. It doesn't look like the eye is inflamed, but she was trying to 'blink' it out. I must remember to take gloves to the vets as she's a nibbler!

Silly pig. Hope it's easy to fix

Good luck tomorrow, well done for being on the ball. Hopefully the vet can sort it out in no time and make sure there is no issues. Let us know how she gets on. Love to Rey

Thank you, I'm hoping he can just flush it out and that will be it with maybe some drops, but I've never had an eye thing before and all the worst-cases are running through my head :-(

Crossing my fingers for Rey! Hope everything goes well tomorrow at the vets, and that whatever it is, is nothing serious!

One of mine had some hay in her eye a couple of years ago the vet managed to get it out, she had some ointment for it and had to go back to check no long term damage was done but she was fine. She also kept closing her eye before I took her. Hopefully your little one will be fine x

If its any consolation hay pokes &foreign objects/ grass seed issues are very common, I have lost count over the years of the amount my girls have had :(

Only 1 of them was left with a slight mark, but all the rest healed up nicely with eye drops. Usually Tiacil or fulcalthmic sp? (a new alternative is out now, can't remember the name of it though).

Glad u have got a quick appointment as eyes are very delicate &need prompt treatment.

In the meantime U could bathe the eye with a little boiled then cooled water with a pinch of salt in it. Drip it in with a clean piece of kitchen towel or if u have a clean syringe just give it a little flush out.

Fingers &paws all crossed for a full &speedy recovery.
Well done on spotting it though :)

Xx

Hopefully the vet can sort it and give you some drops. Hay pokes are a pain, I had 3 in one day a few weeks back.

Oh gosh!

Drops will be fun - I hope he'll give me a big bottle! She's the smallest, the least keen on being handled and not shy about telling you where to shove it! I feel the sofa may get more drops than she will!

When I went to give them their heat pad just now she showed me her right eye quite nicely and it certainly looked no worse than earlier, which can only be good?

It sounds like it should be fairly easy to fix and as you have it seen promptly, it has no chence of getting bad.

If you want to work on the tweaking, have a look at the tips in this thread here. It is a bit of applied guinea pig language, but if you want to be posh about it, you can call it "guinea pig whispering!" :D
Biting

Vet pulled a piece of hay out of the bottom of her eye. She does ha a small scratch on her cornea. Drops to be administered three times a day for 5 days and back for a checkup Tuesday morning. Vet was lovely and Rey only nibbled me once - she was very brave.

Her eye is looking so much better already (not that it looked that bad to start with) she threw a total strop this morning with her drops, but it was *very* early as I had to get my OH's help before he left for work. However she was as good as gold just now. Hope she's that good for the next...10 applications!

Well done. As the eye heals the drops go in easier and the piggies usually (but not always) cooperate a bit more. I hope she makes great progress x

The first times are worst as the eye is very sore; it gets better once the eye is healing. Try to distract her with burying her mouth into her favourite treat, so she loses a good deal of body awareness. Sneak in from behind her head where she can't see you so well.

Teehee, turns out that although she can't go forwards, she can reverse!

Tottaly ignored the yummy new lettuce untill she was back in the pen

Awwww Burrito piggy! :drool::drool:

Glad she is doing well. Healing vibes sent, keep us updated on her x

Rey got the All-Clear from the nurse this morning :-) her eye is totally back to normal. She was very well behaved and the nurse coo'ed over all three (naturally - they're adorable)

Put them all back in the shed after just over three days inside and they seemed very pleased to have the space back!
